Your abuser is a Narcissist - they are excellent at creating a (fake) fantastic future but in reality you are there next supply, the one they aim to destroy, steal from, harm, cause mental anguish and fear. The narcissist can fake love - once you rely on them, the dark side reveals itself.
If your partner has a criminal record, you can complete an application with the police to find out if your partner has a criminal record.
