@DreamInspired4 жыл бұрын
I’ve done a few JB Hunt... I’ll only mess with their crap when I’ve got absolutely nothing going on. Did 10 loads, each over $1.80 a mile, 2 for over $3 a mile... My problems tho were short hauls so high PM but low Gross Income. Also long load times, over 2 hours to load. Long unload times, over 2 hours to unload... I end my day after doing 2 loads, with barely $600... I did have some good loads, but those weren’t daily loads. And even if they were, I still do better of TruckStop load board than JB Hunt. Not saying it’s a bad gig, but my company would drown if I ran only JB Hunt Power Only.

$3500 left after all the bills... Including the over $5k in personal bills. Are your company drivers making over $8500 a month by their 2nd month in?
@Just_Drifter4 жыл бұрын
@@DreamInspired as a team yes. But that $3500 is still low for the month even after expenses and fuel. Might want to look at what your spending out of pocket on and see if you can cut it out to increase your take home. But at least you have KZbin money to offset the losses. The important thing is that you do what makes you happy. I'm just giving my two cents as a driver of over 12+ years on the road.
@DreamInspired4 жыл бұрын
You still didn’t get it... I’m grateful for advice, but we didn’t take home $3500, we took home $8500 and was able to $3500 in the savings account. The missing $5k covered my personal and at home expenses... Cars, ins, mortgage, food, daughters 2nd birthday party, and more. Add in that $2500 I made from YT that month and my NET was $12k +/-. And keep in mind, this video is a year and a half old when I only grossed $18,500 that month... What about my months over $25k? Over $30k? I’m grateful for advice and I read as many comments as I can, but I get a lot of money making advice from guys who have never seen a $15k net month on just their trucking business. And brother I’m in no way shape or form trying to come off as a dick, I understand the info in the video is a little misunderstood sometimes and I do apologize for that. But for just my 2nd month, the semi with no experience, you gotta admit that $8500 isn’t bad at all lol.

@@DreamInspired I didn't hear the $8500 all I heard was the $3500 NOW knowing your monthly take home WAS $8500 after truck payment fuel truck insurance that is a pretty good take home amount for being your second month doing power only. Don't be concerned with the haters. Everyone wants to compare what they are doing and make their job sound better. Great information. So is 20% enough for me to think what I am doing is worth while? Well ok two sides to that. First side is it's better than nothing so I can be greatful for that. Second side is that that's only $48,000.00 average yearly before taxes. As a minimum that's a little low considering there are a multitude of positions in trucking that pay $70,000.00 plus. I have a friend that makes 100k and he's home every night. I wanted to own my own truck when I was 24. I bought my first truck when I was 48. I needed the steady income driving for someone else to raise my kids. Sometimes you just need to look at the long game. Safe travels.

I see exactly where you’re coming from. In my expenses, which is something I guess I should have included in the video, this also covers my 2 personal vehicles their insurance and fuel costs, my home bills and food costs minus the mortgage... Looking at doing power only as soon as I get a truck. This hotshot business is just not worth it anymore. I had two partials the other day totaling $1.40 a loaded mile. I’m getting out!
@DreamInspired4 жыл бұрын
$1.40 a mile is not bad. I do a ton of dead head and a lot of times, the dead head and loaded miles together put me less than $1.50 a mile. My load for tomorrow is paying $2.54 per mile loaded... But I’m dead Heading 260 miles to get the load... All miles puts me around $1.60 and that’s only because it’s going over 700 miles and it’s a specialty RGN load that requires chains and binders. Sept was a good month. But over $2 a mile doesn’t happen every day. Realistically, around $1.50 loaded is pretty typical.thats why I do over 13k miles a month.

20% isn’t the number to look at... What the 20% represents tho is. The end income being $3,325, that’s after all the bills and expenses, including my personal bills... All except my mortgage at least. So at the end of the bills, and the mortgage, I had around $1,950 left in the pocket. Not to mention it only took 15 days out of the month to do and January was just under $23k which I haven’t gone into just... Not telling anyone what to do, but You sure 20% “take home” isn’t worth it?
@jeremyhughes26554 жыл бұрын
@@DreamInspired Unless im missing something, that seems like a terrible investment. There should be 2 profits, 1 for the company, 1 for the guy handling the labor. 20% is a great return for the company only, but then you should be paid for performing the labor above that. No way I would even consider those numbers. 20% net to company while earning for labor and now we are talking.
@DreamInspired4 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Hughes you missed a lot there. 20% was True Net, after all business bills and expenses, and personal bills and expenses. 20% is what was left over. Take out the personal expenses and just include the Net after business, we’d be in the $7500-$8k range, around 45%
@kashflo054 жыл бұрын
Dream Inspired 45% to 50% take home after fuel is the standard so your numbers are about right, you confuse some of the viewers with your personal expenses, those are not apart of the business, just purely business numbers you are doing good, also you could of made more but...... the daddy girls are our weak spot. So congratulations on a good month. A good rule of thumb in trucking is usually if the truck gross 20k you should be keeping 10k after fuel and truck insurance and truck payments and tolls etc....

Me and my husband were looking to move town to Tampa (we're in NYC) but DAT doesn't seem to come up with a lot of local loads for FL. Have you tried Amazon relay?

Interested in what company you pull for as a power only? Started looking at new trucks recently. Getting the itch to get back out on the road again. I've seen one company on the internet the does power only. Drop and hook trailers of all different sizes and shapes would be interesting. What do you do for health insurance?
@DreamInspired4 жыл бұрын
There’s a ton of companies out there doing it. JB Hunt, Covenant, LandStar etc. You can lease on and most guarantee Gross around 3500-4500 a week, all legal no touch loads for drivers like myself with their own authority. For me, I’d need 6 weeks in a month to make things work with that but depending on your bills, you can do pretty well especially with a team driver. I own my authority and dispatch myself off the load boards so I work for pretty much anybody. As for health insurance, I’m covered by the VA.

I just got my truck only and DOT active (not yet MC#)..I have the phys damage/bobtail insurance of course...can I pull PO loads with no primary liability/cargo and just my DOT#? Do I need to get my active MC#? My main question is insurance...even though I have to get BOC3 filed to activate my MC#...what is needed as far as insurance to pull PO? Thanks.
@DreamInspired4 жыл бұрын
To do power only, you need an active MC with standard 1M/100k insurance requirements. You also need what’s called trailer interchange insurance. I have $50k on that. I know other guys with $30k or less but in a lot of cases, brokers and good paying loads will require $40-50k minimum.

2016, 70, 6 Average weight I’d say is around 60-65k Something to note, I have the EX model which is the economy model. From my understanding, this would make a better single axle hotshot truck than a heavy haul truck so my fuel tends to be worse than other trucks

Hey brother, was wondering if you shopped around for your insurance or went with one quick? I recently got my own authority and and I gave 4200 down payment and pay 1700 a month. This is with 1 million coverage and 2 million aggregate and comp, 100,000 cargo, general and non trucking liability i'm also power only so i also have trailer interchange. You should look into amazon as well if you dont already do that. . Basically all the insurance that amazon and uber require. I have had my CDL 11 years now without ever getting a single ticket or anything. My truck is a 2012 cascadia since I also know some of the insurance cost has to do with the value of the truck. If you would like info for my insurance agent so you can shop around, feel free to ask. I'm out of Miami by the way. Good luck to ya brother and nice truck.
@DreamInspired4 жыл бұрын
Hey brother, that’s some good info. For me, my insurance is 1M/150k/ 50k interchange. The business end costs roughly $425 a month and the truck is the remaining $1700. 2 big factors for me are that I’m still in my first 2 years with a CDL, and I have an at fault from 4.5 years ago... Backed into some in a parking lot. Nothing I can do about that. My first year, I’m insurance was around $600 a month more but my 2nd year has been far better and it’s all thanks to my agent out of Sunrise. I relocated my business to GA and pushed him hard for the lowest rates... I quoted many other options too... As for Amazon, I looked into it but honestly, i would never be able to gross what I do now, plus I’d always be loaded heavy and putting my stress on my truck unlike now where 90% of what I do is brand new trailers and I’m rarely $2 or under... I am tho very interested in hearing you out on it as I do keep my options open. Are you on Instagram? If so, add me, let’s set up a time for a call! 👍🏻 @Dream.Inspired

Are you expected to insure the customers trailers that you haul? Look into hauling propane in your area. My insurance is under $600. Per month and on a good month can make $20K gross.

All trailers need to be insured. If you are moving someone else’s trailer, you can carry trailer interchange insurance which covers unowned trailers.

That’s awesome man! Not a bad number at all! If that your company or do you drive for someone else? How many miles do you average daily/weekly? If you can stand being in the truck with someone that long you can make really good money. 🤣 I can be a bit short tempered at times but if I had a team driver, which I’ve honestly thought about, adding to what my current numbers are, we should be able to gross around $40-45k. I would probably pay the team driver around $0.60 +/- cents per mile depending on if I covered meals, showers, etc or they covered their over head. Finding the right driver would be the hard part tho.

$3,000/mo Doesn't seem worth it. I make $4,000/mo being a company driver and probably spent a lot less time on the road than you. Home every night. However, I am looking at becoming O/O anyways. I think I have a good deal coming up. I rode along with the driver that hooked me up with this opportunity, he made $9,000 in 5 days; after all expenses. I think there are better opportunities out there. But do what you enjoy.

You sure? $3325 left in the pocket for whatever I want after all the bills and expenses isn’t sustainable? I mean if I take out my personal vehicles and personal expenses, I’d be around $7500 take home before that. $3325 is True Net. Only thing not included is Mortgage at $1350 which is covered else where...

@DreamInspired4 жыл бұрын
The money definitely amped up with more experience. 1 thing I’ll add tho is the 25 cents at the end... That was after all my bills and expenses, including personal except my mortgage. Write off everything lol. After the Mortgage, I still had around $2k in the pocket after everything. I been looking, haven’t found any employers paying out like that.

@william86534 жыл бұрын
Would you say this is way more profitable then hot shot trucking?
@DreamInspired4 жыл бұрын
That part depends... Hotshot wise, I have 1 friend who did $26k a few months back, another who did $25k and another who is lucky to get $12k. I have 2 friends doing power only, 1 does around $16k a month and the other runs teams with his wife, they drive 18 hours a day and do around $32k a month but since they are married, everything after expenses and bills is take home. You can make profit anywhere, the secret to success is in keeping more of it. If I didn’t have 2 2019 vehicles in my driveway at home, I’d be saving around $3k a month between the bills and fuel... And those vehicles are included in my numbers here under expenses. A semi can be stressful, the maintenance is triple the cost in some cases. But they can easily last 5-10x longer than a 3500. Plus I’m far more comfortable in this thing 🤣 but even so, the 3500 had less in maintenance costs, far less in fuel costs, was so much easier to get in and out of places, easy to load with that low Load Trail I had... there’s benefits in both. I know I kinda blur the line, but you can make money in either... Question is what your expenses are and how much you can have left in the pocket at the end of the month/money.
