EP 13: Bump Stop Chop / 1967 VW Type 3 Squareback

After driving around for a while, I've noticed that the front end is SUPER stiff and bouncy. I could feel every dip/bump/pebble on the road. Bump stops had already previously been removed after lowering the suspension a few notches, but that didn't help much as my lower arms are literally riding metal on metal to the actual bump stop arms. Decided to chop them off to allow much more suspension travel, and even upgraded the front shocks to some NOS KYB gas shocks off a King Pin bug. No modifications done, they bolted directly onto the stock Type 3 beam.

Outer and inner splines should be the same amount on a type 3 suspension bar. I lowered my notch 2 splines on the opposite or inner side each and am quite happy with that. At least it stays drivable. The upper bar is not a suspension but stabilisor as far as I know. Nice vid 😎👍 go on

There are fewer inner splines then outer ones on a Type 3 front end

Too bad you did not say how you got the lower arms off. I had no problem with the PAX side arm, but still not any luck with the DRV side. PS-- THEY CALL ME VW

Just get Type 3 lowering spindles... they are hard to find but you will be better off in the long run.

@@bava67 Now you guys got me looking at how to put a Type 1 beam into a Type 3.😂 I dropped my 71 Squareback this way and the alignment was always screwed up, and I went through 135's fast.

I hate to see a T3 beam getting chopped like that. All T3 parts just become harder to find all the time. I think I would want to find a solution to the uneven nature of the arms before doing anything else. I hope it all went as well as you wanted.
