Very impressive work on the new Breast Hook! I have an idea for chain locker: You should do what Damien and Jess did on Project Brupeg down under in Aus-land. He obtained a large diameter Nylon or Heavy duty Plastic cylinder (like a barrel) with a bottom on it, that fits into the allowed space. Then he fashioned a drain line and drain port in order to lead the water that comes into the chain locker overboard. This would prevent the wooden frames and beams from getting damaged by the chain as well as protect them from water rotting the wood. I think he obtained the plastic bin from the scrap yard so it was fairly cheap to purchase. This idea may work for Sarinda as well. I have been working on restoring a wooden WW2 78 foot Higgins US PT Boat here in Oregon (USS PT658) and have followed your progress for several years now. Keep up the good fight! Jerry

Put a large plastic drum in the anchor locker and feed the chain into this. It keeps the chain tidy and also stops being caught and damaging the hull.

Pigs made me have to watch it twice. I enjoy helping people. Neighbors pigs got loose 3 weeks. Supposed to be here for a week ended up being here for three weeks the last 2 weeks they didn't feed their pigs I had to feed their pigs. After studying the law about animal abandonment. Ended up finding them a new home. God knows i love all humans, Sometimes the things some humans do even i fall short sometimes of doing the right thing. One love keeps me moving forward. The love of knowing the good humans are capable of. It's all about choices. Your boat is amazing, you are amazing. Your love for life is right on.

My suggestion is to work on packers on the pleasant days and build a permanent form in the workshop for laminating all of your deck beams. So when the nice weather rolls around next spring you may have all your deck beams ready to go. The deck beams will require a significant amount of material. Have you considered fabricating a fixture for a band saw (or finding a sponsor) on which you can do your ripping and resawing? I hate to see all that prime material winding up in your thickness planners chip bag. GREAT Job

Perhaps a shelf in the bottom of the chain locker with a plastic drum sitting on it (50 gallon?) would work to keep the chain and ooge that it brings up under control as well as protecting the hull. Also, this is way, way down the road but when you secure the bitter end to the hull, use a piece of stout line between the hull and the end of the chain. That way if you have to abandon the anchor for some reason (dragging anchor on a lee shore) you can put a float on the end and cut the line.

Well done. Such impressive work for amateur boat builders. One suggestion regarding the offcuts from the Breast Hook. Why not set them aside in the workshop ready for when Sarinda is finished and you are fitting her out with decor. You could then shape them, varnish them and use them as features in your saloon or on the bridge. Enjoying watching everything you are doing. Stay safe.

That was a superb piece of work, great skill, teamwork and above all that incredible sense of purpose and determination. You guys work so well together, I love Gemma's little tweaks and adjustments whilst Simon was drilling those long holes. Brilliant mutual trust and teamwork, a pleasure to watch. But the best this about all of this, is that you share it with everyone. I really enjoyed watching that. It was a real uplifting video....Oh dear I think I have a little tear in my eye (sniff!). Just a thought, regarding that chain locker, how about lining it with stainless steel sheet? If you make templates you can use them to get the sheet cut. Might be pricey but would solve the problem of possible chain jamming.....? Great stuff!🥰

Easy solution for the chain/anchor rope. Get a big plastic barrel and plumb a drain hole into the bottom of it, also add a hose for a water flush to clean the rope & chain. Less noise and easy to clear stuff without it going all over.

I would say that you already know what to do next (i.e., the chain locker!). Just image hoooow hard it will be to do this later. It would be like putting a new roof on your house and finding a dodgy beam and not fixing it while the roof was open.
@praeliora Жыл бұрын
It's looks so much better and of course stronger.. I think you definitely need to line the anchor locker, using lead would be easy to fit and will cushion the chain, but you would need to adjust your ballast accordingly, I'm 100% sure that Simon will have worked out what to do already 😊

Make a large plastic bin shaped for the anchor locker, incorporate a drain so you can wash it out, use 10mm plastic, only problem is once fitted it won't be coming out so all the wood needs sorting. Look after your selves with the colder weather coming, a cough can soon turn bad.

That 'Drill Job' was a beauty! For the anchor locker, you could install horizontal, 4 or 5 cm strips of Marine ply about 2 cm apart, then, if the chain is to noisy or abrasive, you can cover them with used restaurant kitchen floor mats. You might get them for free from a local eatery. And since that locker bulkhead isn't really 'structural', why not cut a large hatchway and install a cover?

Great work & episode, thank you. I look forward to the year when you can made trips with your boat. In regards to the chain locker, perhaps lining it with pre-made foam / fiber glass boards. One other boat channel I have been following, (The Duracell Project), uses such and it would seem ideal for this use. Strong enough to last perhaps 10 years, light enough to work with easily and maybe cheap enough that it won't break the bank. A flat bottom would keep it from catching / tangling the chain, with drain hole for the water. Plus, another hole for the rope to tie down the anchor chain to the keel. (If I understand boating, using a large rope for the last part of the anchor chain to boat connection, allows the rope to be cut in an emergency when you can't pull up the anchor...)

Stainless steel lining the anchor locker will protect the timbers. Only snag is electrolytic corrosion of the chain where it’s sitting on the stainless. A tough plastic sheet would be a better option.

You may want to look in to cladding the inside of the chain locker with 1,5-2 mm stainless. Perhaps even a premade/custom "bucket" that fit that hold just right, with a drain pipe going through the bulkhead with a tap for when you need to clean and drain your chain locker. Nice work on the brest hook, by the time you are done with this ship you could have a career repairing ships for money. If the customers want a reference just show them your videos.
