I've met Richard several times after Cradle gigs. He was always a stand up guy and pleasure to meet. He's a really good guy. I have multitudes of respect for Richard.

Richard is a class dude. Great player, great teacher, and all around solid dude. What still blows my mind is the access we have to our favorite bands right now. I can take lessons from a dude that wrote some of my favorite songs. That is so wild. What better way to learn a song than work with the person that wrote it? But more so, hooooow they wrote it. The theory behind the songs I love. Such a cool time to be a guitar player.

What a great watch. I have to admit, I'm one of those 'metal only' or near to it guys, but I do respect musicians who've got a much broader palette than me and who legitimately enjoy and can play in many styles, like Richard can. That being said, as many, many people who were into Cradle 'back in the day' say now but lost interest in them because the music became too contrived in the middle stages, too boring, too "Hot Topic"... the last few records REALLY re-captured some of the old magic but also pointed well toward the future. Richard is 100% correct in following his own path, as we all should.

Its very cool you were Cradle fan forever. I was more Dimmu back in the 90s cos as you know there was a dumb feud and I was dumb to not listen to Cradle (I did watch Her Ghost in the Fog video sometimes) but awww its sad when people lose interest in old favorite bands...theyre gonna change, we know that. Its still Dani! lol But, I really didnt love Dimmus last album...too much orchestras driven, less guitar driven

I was 100% metal until I discovered Phish at the end of high school and made a hard pivot. I went from playing death metal with Angeldeath to now playing spacey indie rock and roll with Glass Pony. Metal just lost something for me, and the energy of Phish’s acrobatic firework jamming was too captivating to ignore. Same energy, and an equally shredding drummer. However, for some reason Necrophobic has reignited the vision and I’m seeing riffs again. Never thought that would happen haha Good music is everywhere. I will go from Necrophobic to the Grateful Dead to Deadmau5 to Pink Floyd to Phish to Shpongle to Slowdive to Godspeed You! black Emperor to Immortal

@@Gumbo72203 I loved metal so much and then I saw phish is 97!!! Totally rad experience. It's all about keeping your mind open and enjoying things for what they are, but hey, you love what music you love and as far as I'm concerned there's nothing wrong with that 🤘🤘

Saw the band in Albany without him, and I swore they said it was because he had some family thing he had to run to and Dani even mentioned it on stage that they expected him to return shortly.

That's entirely subjective because you have to consider that Cradle released their best material with their lineup from the late 90s/early 00s.

best line up was on Cruelty and the Beast, and it shows when 3 crucial people who actually made COF music left, its just really is Dani & the Filths

Aren't you automatically with that damned band?... I just realized that he was out already, just when I was thinking that perhaps they might have find a good lineup now. - But I should have known better. Some bands are just cursed or not really made from the same few people (as much as some people want to insist), they're more like "revolving door projects". I think the problem is more that some of the founders don't realize this themselves, unlike say the Arjen Lucassen with his Ayreon project or something. But it wasn't even the band that was his issue, it was the business behind it that was draining and unfair, so much that even the crew left.

I commented years ago on a CoF live video that I couldn't understand that Dani hasn't fired Rich yet because Richs excellent showmanship took too much spotlight away from that little narcissist.
@NightgauntGer
@NightgauntGer 2 жыл бұрын
@Astra Inclinant Well my wild guess is that it's Dez and his wife who are the management who are now the problem. However the "Dani and the Filths" trashtalk by former member of CoF has been going on for more than 20 years. Rich clearly states that the band exists only to make money for Dani and the management, everyone else is getting nickel and dimed. Almost all former members have blamed Danis ego, so I'm not so I'm not sure if I would buy that he is innocent in it and he should be aware that the people who write the actual music for him are getting not much out of it. With him being the face and main member of CoF I don't buy that it's all the managements fault. This sounds very similar to what Lombardo said when he quit Slayer.
@RodHxC
@RodHxC 2 жыл бұрын
@@NightgauntGer that is true in a way. The likes of Nick Barker, Stuart Anstis, Les Smith, Benjamin Ryan and Paul Allender left the band due management issues. Hell, other members were let go for no reason at all, fired and who knows what else could have happened. It's a shame that the band has lost so many talented musicians.

I just stumbled on this , I guess bc of my youtube history having black metal n cradle and stuff. I'm just halfway thru but Good job on the interview guys, seriously. One question I have tho is, Richard has said multiple times that it's "No one in the band"?? Like the threats and bullshit. And that he still "gets on great" with all of em. That kinda just leaves management. But why wouldn't he have addressed it with like Dani then? Management WORKS for the band not vice versa. Everyone from Led Zeppelin to Gnr etc has fired them and had em replaced. I'm sure the management is kissing Dani's ass and whatnot, but if both Richard and the keyboardist, not to mention the "whole road crew" left.... Idk, Dani has to see all this?? Sorry for such a long msg/question guys. Seriously good job on the interview style. Good back and forth and everyone seems super comfortable. I'll definitely be checking out more. Take care guys.

My wild guess would be that it's Dez Ferrara, after all he and his wife are the managers. Kinda surprising that it's actually not Dani, so many others have cited him as being very difficult to work with thanks to his ego. I still love CoF but due to the revolving door of band members I've always been aware that there's a problem in the band, they labelled it "Dani and the Filths" like 20 years ago, so go figure.

Hes clearly being very polite. I think this is a read between the lines situation since Richard is too classy to sell the clear band member that's spent the last 20+ years alienating band members

@@TheNeuroticGuitarist now we've really got something here. So you're saying, even though Richard takes the time to emphasize at 20:55 - "and I can't stress this enough, it's nobody in the band" - his quote, that you are speaking for him and saying that he was actually referring to Dani Filth after all? Negating that statement that he took time to stress? Has Richard Shaw authorized you to speak on his behalf, to enlighten us on what he was "really saying"? If not, don't you think it's reckless, petty and clickbaity for you to imply the exact opposite of what your guests have made a point to emphasize? What they literally said they "cannot stress enough"? This is now a question of integrity. I think you either need to retract your statement, or it has to be brought to Richard that you are implying on his behalf, when his words on tape are expressing the exact opposite.
