I had to cry about the sad news. I am suffering with depression and therefore I can understand how hard it can be to stay alive. Sometimes it seems hopeless and you are out of strength, but there is also hope. I deeply support that someone in need should look for help. And if that is not sufficient, look for additional support. I also encourage friends, neighbors, colleagues to have more courage to give support.

There aren't too many women that have the talent to do all that Jemma is doing and that's a plus for Simon. Boat is looking great.
@KevinAmatt Жыл бұрын
I agree, she’s an amazing human being. But I have to add that I have on restoring houses for over 20 years and, on some sites, almost half the workers were women. Plus the site manager, architect and interior designer. Without wanting to sound patronising, they were as good as any man.

The women who choose to not get involved are just not the sort of people you’ll want on any practical job.

My dad ,would say about a woman like Gemma ",you should ask her if there are any more at home like her"
@dtnicholls1 Жыл бұрын
Nonsense. Jemma isn't talented for being able to do what she's doing. Look at the results of the work. It's solid and serviceable, but it's not beautiful. None of that woodwork has the fit and finish of something like Tally Ho. And yes, It's quite clear that's not what they are trying to do. Simon could probably manage it, but not Jemma. She doesn't have the experience. Yet. What she is is hard working and determined. She can do what she can because she's worked at it. It's not talent, it's pure effort. Pretty much any woman you come across could do exactly the same if they decided to. What makes her special is just that. She decided to.

Great progress today, but such sad news about Ralph.. My daughter Rhianne took her own life just a few weeks ago, following long term systematic mental and physical abuse from her partner..on her 35th birthday, just 6 weeks before her death he had destroyed her eye by hitting her in the face with a plate..She had always been so lively and confident, but she became a nervous wreck and was even afraid to leave the house alone. If you are in crisis, don't suffer alone, don't ever feel that there isn't a way forward, because there is..Please reach out for help, and be vigilant of those around you who are vulnerable, especially at this time of year ❤

I have two suggestions for you: 1) connect the water-cooling of the generator to your radiator/heating system. It should reduce the fuel consumption of the boiler quite a bit. And why heating the ocean if you want the boat warm? Since you mainly use it in winter, I think it would be worth the couple of extra valves and fittings. 2) please put a bilge blower into the bilge if you put batteries in there. And ideally put a thermocouple on each battery. Especially if you think of putting lithium Ion phosphate batteries down there. If they get into thermal runaway, NOTHING will stop them from burning your ship down

While putting batteries in the bilge is a great use of that space, make sure you have a secondary battery location above the waterline or some way of externally powering your bilge pumps. If the hull is damaged or you have a seacock fail, the bilge will fill with water and you will lose your batteries.

Putting your batteries in the floor is a great idea. Make sure you ventilate them well for off gassing. We put ours in the floor on our boat from a cupboard. Worked out well and gave us a lot larger bank and easier to maintain. And a bonus, it was right below our electrical panels which made wiring a lot easier too. Great progress this episode. Glad to see you have heat again. Cheers.

Using the fuel tank bay as utility space is a great idea. And locating your battery bank beneath your floor boards is another great idea. One major benefit is the batteries will not be subject to big swings in temperature. In the bilge it should be a fairly constant 12-13C. The only issue you may encounter is air circulation - but I don't imagine you will be using lead acid batteries. In the meantime. May I suggest adding a second 400 watt wind turbine (less than 200 Euros) and adjusting the angle of your solar panels tilt upwards. Anything beyond flat will be an improvement with your winter sun so low on the horizon. You make quite a team. I'm jealous in a way - wishing I had such a life partner that had worked as a team. 👍

Batteries in the bilge would be great for stability. I don't know what boat regs are but I'd want some batteries and their circuits to stay alive to the last.. like lighting stays on, radio works ect, so everyone can be gathered to the raft with med kits, water blankets and flares. I'm not scaremongering it's in a way good to think that nearly every boat dies in a scrap yard! Anyways your learning and connections to people who know their boats you'll soon be teaching us the regs I'm sure! RIP Rolf. We all gotta go at some point. so glad he found your project to get caught up in.

One problem with putting the battery in the bilge is outgassing when the batterys are charging. You would need to provide an escape overboard for the gas. Don't forget it is hydrogen, lighter than air and highly flamable. You also need access for maintenance.

Rest in peace Rolf , i know how difficult live may seem . But there is a way through it . Reach out to people around you ! I'm sure it wouldn't be a bother for them , they would really want to help . For the electrical equipment , you found a nice place for it . But i would keep the generator in the engine room . Also , i would want to get information whether you are allowed to put this equipment in a separate room outside the engine room . I don't know the rules and regulations in the UK , so get your info before committing .
