Boretec works great, keep it clean and shoot it. I have a rem 700 with visible pitting in 2 different spots in the barrel. Still shoots a barnes copper moa out to 300 yards.

I don’t know if it makes a difference or not precision wise but if you shoot and let it be, it will rust/have pores inside

this is for a rifle you have had for a while, NOT A NEW RIFLE. get the tipton cleaning pellets, run those ONLY fron to back, never bring it back into barrel, run a new pellet and keep doing that till pellet is clean. this is for after season is over ready to put in safe for the summer. during the season only keep the exterior oiled to keep from rust. easy peasy. right before season when sighting in , once sighted in do not clean the inside of thebarrel, only clean the outside of the gun!

Add my yes to the tour of Preston's "gunsmithing" tool box. Also, I just purchased my first scope. How about a session on mounting and zeroing a scope? There must be more to it than mounting the rings to the rifle and inserting the scope.

I'll stick to using Sweet's and Hoppe's, works plenty good enough, I can live with the ammonia smell for as often as I use it. I found Wipeout foam to be a PITA to use, didn't do amything extra on guns that had been cleaned with Sweet's or Robla Solo. Just checked, Amazon Canada doesn't sell Boretech, some in Ontario, I'm in Alberta, one store here has it (maybe) at 39.99 for a 4oz bottle, can buy equivalentt amount of Robla Solo for 19.98, get a bit more in Sweet's for 26.99 Cdn. Hoppe's seems to work fine for stotage.

Perhaps you could do a segment on cleaning a carbon ring thanks
@richardfitzsimmons5244Ай бұрын
I use a hoppes soaked patch. Put in the carbon ring area. Let it set overnite then clean as usual. It works. You may have to rinse and repeat if it's built up bad but a couple cycles will remove the ring.

Why wouldn't you just follow the recommendations on the Boretech Eliminator bottle?? 2-3 passes with a wet patch followed by 10-20 passes with a bore brush with Eliminator and a repeat of 2-3 wet patches of Eliminator, then dry patches as required? If you are going to hunt or shoot you are good to go or if its going in the safe run a light oil patch down the bore and patch dry next time the rifle comes out? Been using Boretech Eliminator for over 10 yrs and have had zero issues with all my rifles. Great product 👍
@bruce6099Ай бұрын
If he'd actually read the instructions on the boretech bottle, he'd have also seen that you can also leave it in the bore as a corrosion preventative.

Hornady One Shot Gun Cleaner and Lube is what I use as a final swab when cleaning my rifle barrels. A dry lube with excellent rust prevention and clean, cold bore accuracy. Cleaning rods with a smaller diameter handle leave space so the handle can clear the top of the stock, allowing for a shorter length rod to reach the entire length of the barrel. Pro Shot makes one with a handle that's just 3/4-inch in diameter.

One Shot is good for the nooks and crannies on actions. Your case lube is good stuff too. I use a bore snake on my M1A.

I’ll bow to your advice, but some of it’s not been my experience. I hunt with a Rem 7400 and a BARLongTrac. Most years, I tilt the guns near vertical in a garbage can muzzle down and spray breech very liberally with WD40 with reasonable care to keep it away from the bolt. 32:26 On the bolt I use RemOil, as it has proven to keep working in -20 to -30. I also use the WD40 on all exterior metal, wiping off the excess. I leave muzzle down for a day or so to let any liquid run out before storing. I have cleaned with bore snakes every five to ten years, or if I think accuracy has dropped significantly. I never leave a dry bore or chamber, as these rifles are used so seldom I believe they could be subject to rust. That has been noted as an issue with these autoloaders. And I have consequently never fired a single round from a dry chamber except for the initial shots after purchase. I am aware that this increases bolt thrust, as is written up in various manuals, but it seems like they built the actions more than adequately strong enough. Never have had any reliability issues with factory loads. Been running the 7400 since 1985 or so, and expect to run it until I can no longer hunt.

Most people don't realize how copper fouled their barrels actually are. Get a borescope and be amazed.

Why a carbon fiber rod? Is there some reason one piece stainless is bad?
@JDsModernMartialArts23 күн бұрын
I would say you don't want to have any chance of steel on steel friction. The carbon fiber is light and strong and can't scratch the bore.

Borescope is a non-negotiable. You can’t truly say it’s clean if you can’t see the results of your efforts.
