As a therapist I usually recommend my folks change their mindset from striving for perfection, because perfection is not attainable. I encourage them to strive for excellence which is possible. So although the old timer at the wood store had a good idea, I would recommend tweaking it just a bit. It seems to reduce the stress and self criticism people experience. I love your videos and find your thoughts on community and life in general very uplifting and relaxing. I will probably never refinish any piece of furniture myself, but I’ll keep watching you do it! Take care and be well.

Laurie, in my culture, we say that one cannot create perfection. Only the Creator can. Whether that be God, Mother Nature or something else is up to you. Master weavers and other artists purposely put in a “flaw” to assure their work isn’t “perfect.” I find that really comforting. I’m a Coast Salish Native in the Pacific NW. And yes, I always try to be perfect. Lol

I'm always frustrated as I'm never satisfied with what I produce (knitting, embroidery, sewing, painting, carving, creating things with whatever I find in nature, working with epoxy, etc...). I cannot forgive me any mistake. And as people appreciate what I make, well, I think they are telling lies. I should follow your advice, as a therapist, but I'm not able 😮 I'm not a rational person, emotions and sensations has been guiding me in my life. Anyway handicraft cannot and mustn't be perfect, that's the value a handmade object adquires.

You do not have to explain to anybody the kind of money you make on those pieces. You create wonderful pieces of real furniture, no plastic throw away junk, and you get paid for what your work is worth to people. If you make a million a month or 100, it is nobodys business. Try to buy quality furniture today and see what you pay for it. You make out of old quality furniture that some people didn't appreciate and made master pieces out of them, pieces you should be proud of. I am very proud of them and wish I had one special piece 😊. I enjoy watching and so do lots of people. Thanks for the video!

I came to say this, the bit should always be spinning away from the material. So as Mike said, when the Router is between you and the work, move from left to right (never go back in the direction you have just made a pass on) when you get to a corner continue "around" it. When the material is in the middle, as in you, the material then the router Move right to left - Mike will correct me If I'm wrong, I just learnt this about a year ago so I'm a novice too

Good observation that 75% of the work is prep work. I find that holds true in much of life. At least in my life, any project - whether professional or personal - is heavy on the prep end. Prep work often isn't fun or exciting, but it's what makes bigger payoffs possible. Great comment with universal application.
