Ahhh....I thought you had left KZbin behind. I was so glad to see this video today. I love the restoration, but combined with the bird song in the background, the cozy staging pictures and scenery, the soothing music you choose, and the quiet way you tell the story, it all comes together to make a comforting video to watch. That might sound weird, but that's how it feels. I have my mother's Altavista Lane cedar chest. It doesn't look like this outside, but the inside is exactly like my mother's....even the green felt and the warranty card. I'm glad you saved it.

Here is a suggestion: Get a small bottle of Aromatic Cedar Oil, and apply it to the INSIDE of the UPPER LID. It will permeate the inside of the chest with cedar aroma, which keeps the moths away, but will not stain any clothing or linens you place into the chest. This technique keeps a Cedar Chest useful for decades.
@shainazion407310 ай бұрын
A slight sanding of the cedar usually brings back the cedar scent. The oil is step 2.

I've missed your videos Barry. The gentleness that that you bring to the refinishing game is beautiful. And I'm the type of girl that started to refinish a dresser, lost interest in the project when the paint proved mightier than me, and now enjoy watching others transform pieces. And you did a mighty fine job disguising all those repairs. A well done piece!

Barry, can speak for only myself, and I am a 70 year old lady in Texas. I watch for you. I love to listen to your calm voice telling the story about what you are working on at the time. The historical aspect is fabulous to me. I love how Barry respects the items and the history, the purpose both original and continuing. He tries to make sure that his commission clients are honored by respecting their wishes for their property. Barry does beautiful work.

Like everyone else I’ve missed watching you refinish all those gems in the rough. I have always loved vintage and antique furniture. I really enjoy the information you pass on while working on each piece. That lane factory trip was bitter sweet, loved the history so sad to see the factory no longer in use. I too own a lane chest with no idea how we got it. I noticed you’ve upped your game on making veneer repairs. I’m in the group that loves to watch you repair and refinish everything. Those who can’t….watch, that would be me.

You asked what kind of viewers we are. I like to watch people refinishing because someday I hope I have the space to actually refinish and sell or keep the pieces. Thank you for your beautiful restorations and your explanations on everything that you do. Blessings.

Hi Barry, always a treat seeing you working on these wonderful transformations. Another beautiful job. My Mom has a cedar chest at the family homestead from her wedding days. She married in 1954. She recently passed on to a better place. This video reminded me to have my siblings and I to revisit it once again. I remember it was more of a lighter wood. Not certain I’ll see. I’ll keep you posted on that. At least , thanks to you, I know how to read the date on back. Joyce❤️🙏🇺🇸

I have a soft spot for the Lane Hope chest. My grandfather born 1884-1953) was a watch maker, he made a grandfather clock from cedar, as well as so many furniture pieces in their home, a china cabinet, a desk, dresser, and other random pieces, I particular remember the grandfather clock, he made all the movements, I remeber it growing up in Houston Texas. Glad to see you, the chest turned out beautifully.

I loved this video! When my mom died, I inherited her Lane cedar chest that she had bought in 1947, at age 18, with money she had received from high school graduation. It looks very similar to the one you showed at the end of the video. It doesnt have legs like the one you refinished. Im not a refinisher and it desperately needs refinishing! The veneer/wood is dry and dull and whike the finish isnt sticky, it does have a thick, alligator feel. Its not exactly crazed, just feels strange.
