Joseph Kim is on different level in terms of market understanding and how effortlessly he is translating that info into simple words. Wow what a legend. Major missed info from him on this pod is what kind of games work in India.

I am pretty sure Joseph felt like it was not worth joining this discussion panel. Even when Nassir (Nasdaily) was a part of this podcast, one could easily observe the level of in depth knowledge, intellect and excellence in communication he had over other content creators. Same with other international individuals ( Including NRIs working in US ). And I think the flaw lies in our culture and education system, and I don't know how that's going to change, but if any core nationlist sees this, it is an initiative worth taking.

I gotta say Nikhil is an amazing person. Wonderful, humble, generous, and super charismatic. I (Joseph Kim- writing from my Gamedev YT channel) was and am super humbled to have been invited to such a great show. Just skimming through some of the comments here, I can see Nikhil has a really supportive community, and OMG Thug must be doing something really right to have such a huge and committed audience. Anyway, for some of you who wrote nice things about me... thank you guys. I'm used to doing super niche content for tiny audiences so it's cool to see so many people interested in gaming/gamedev content here.

The podcast appeared to be heavily focused on mobile gaming, neglecting the broader gaming landscape in India. While mobile gaming may have a larger audience, it should not be the sole focus here when discussing the gaming industry in the country. Some people including me or I should say those with extensive gaming experience, may have anticipated a more comprehensive exploration of the true essence of gaming, which was lacking in the podcast. And I respectfully disagree with your point here ,Nikhil, did not even delve into the perspectives and experiences of dedicated gamers or the deeper significance of gaming. However, it is worth noting that the guest speakers, especially Kim, provided valuable insights into the Indian gaming community that even Indian gaming community may not have been aware of. Their knowledge and intellect deserves nothing but admiration and respect.

If you are a real gamer(not mobile) then I feel like we are born in the wrong country. Mobile gaming has picked up in India because we are poor and cannot afford to pay for a PC/console or games. F2p android games are played by the youth who don't earn or earn little money. And if you are smart enough, you will realize because the income inequality is increasing, those poor people will never do well enough to ever transition into fully paid PC/ console gamers. India seems forever be doomed to be a f2p mobile gaming nation with poor RPU.

Am i the only one who felt jospeh was the only one who was being honesty ? Indian guy couldn't justify going public nor could accept he made a mistake by going public. Krafton guy was scared, he was trained about what and how much to say. 8bit was just trying to sell gaming. Gaming can never be a career in india. Most of the so called gamers earn through KZbin and streams whether than actual gaming. Nikhil knew people as are earning through streams rather than actual gaming. If you are giving your 10yr old an iPad then obviously he would not go out and play physical game. Sports is never going to die. Most of india cannot afford a good pc or a console. Not even a high end phone. Gaming will never become what it is in the US, in India.
@kanishhh
@kanishhh 4 ай бұрын
Partly true in the end but things are changing. 'chapris' as people say are able to get top tier phones on emi and what not easily. Also it's not really necessary for physical sport to die & esports to emerge as a sole survivor.
@Indian.cricket911
@Indian.cricket911 4 ай бұрын
@@kanishhh I agree to the second part while I share different opinion regarding the affordability of high end devices. I do not think majority of india, which is the real india is still available to afford a phone worth 40 thousand. Even if we hypothetical think everyone has a good phone still it doesn't mean they wants to make a living out of it. As nikhil gave the stat, 96% gamers are mobile gamers. It is likely that they play games in their free time. Also It is extremely hard to make money from mobile games as compared to pc and console gaming. Majority revenue of gaming industry comes from the company who sell their game's copy. Eg gta, cod, etc. Even pubg is declining. I don't think there is any other mobile game through which gamers can make money. Majority of india cannot afford a high end pc or a console or even if they can then they don't get time to play. Work life balance is so bad in India. You cannot make a living out of Mobile games. You have to play pc/ console games which has a pretty small market in India. You would find more viewership on mobile games streams then pc games stream in India. Because majority of people are most of the time not even aware that there is this particular game called xyz. These so called gamers have started making vlogs and doing random challenges rather than playing the actual game.

After moving to US from India working in Tech, I noticed lot of small things & reason why we lack such expertise. In china if you see the education system teach lot of low level stuff like working with Kernel, Embedded basically systems programming. Whereas in India you want to go learn next big thing which is problematic cause you haven’t understand basics and you start working on abstraction & fancy things. This is the main problem, which translates to skill set, bubble up & it leads to not having kind of expertise industry expects. Translating to us not being able to produce quality software.

Gaming can't be your primary career choice. But the game development can be. games are basically an end product. like a movie. It's meant to be consumed. now you can watch so many movies and develop a skill to review or talk about movies, now that can be a career path. Even if you look at the esports industry all over the world, it's still nowhere nowhere near the mainstream sports industry. becaus you need a large audience who will be willing to watch esports. So comparing cricket and gaming is invalid as of now. Streaming games is a different thing. because it's a value addition. People are not watching you because you are playing a game, but you are adding something extra on top of it. maybe humor, knowledge, unique techniques, or your personality. and it will always be a niche compared to other career paths. So don't get confused about a gamer, streamer, and content creator

Nikhil and his team has done a tremendous job in identifying who's their target audience for the podcast and what do they want. Not once Nikhil has allowed the guests to go deeper into topics. Surface level analysis full of acronyms. It's a good podcast only if someone wants a basic idea. There's nothing in depth here. I came to this podcast with a very wrong expectation I think.

I am living in Mumbai for almost 10+ years, though originally from Karnataka. I was once asked by my landlord when I was vacating the flat after 4 years if I knew anybody from Karnataka who wants to rent or from south if there was no one from Karnataka. The landlord was Delhiite who had few properties in Mumbai. He said people from Karnataka keep flats clean, I was surprised. He said, that's why he had kept my rents about 2+k below the market in same building. I was pleasantly surprised. Having lived in top 6 major Indian cities, I can saypeople in Bengaluru are indeed nice and modest. Delhi is for power and money, Mumbai is just money, Hyderabad is Movies crowd, Chennai is modest peoe, but not welcoming to outsiders, Ahmedabad is just boring AF and way too religious. I know it will hurt some people, but that's the fact. Also, I couldn't help but wonder after Paytm troubles, if that company was away from Delhi Power and Mumbai Old money, they would've had a better future. Old money has strong roots in Mumbai and Delhi, they don't tolerate any new entrants.

The real appeal of Ludo is its social aspect. People gather around one mobile device, making it more about relationships than the game itself. However, monetisation is challenging because players often play offline to avoid ads. In India, where people often gamble based on the game. Players can sometimes predict the game's randomness, leading to bets placed outside the game. This insight might help bring monetisation into the game.

yeah I'm so dissatisfied that they didn't talk elaboratively about future and progress of pc and console gaming in India and the criticality of piracy in India instead they talked so much about how mobile gaming is the future and blah blah and the juncture at which thug said that games will need to be fast pace and all that felt like utter bullshit to me for me games need to be good at 3 parameters which are story-gameplay-graphics , if a game stand strong on these then its most prolly gonna be great , sorry to say but we needed better insights than this , although I liked a lot of points spoken by joseph he talked about a lot of technical stuff too which were very penetrative .

Sadly India Don't even own 1% of Actual Game Production Industry. Except Gambling games. We don't even have single Game Production Company with $Billion Valuations. But will Build 1. Literally I Just recently realized I'm the First Indian Game Developer Who Released "First Multiplayer PC Game" on steam. I'm not open for Investors because in Game Production Investor kills the project under pressure. Because Investor always hunting for profits and in Games Revenue don't come in before release. Which i Don't like. Allready rejected multiple Investments. And Krafton Incubation program is also Investment against equity. So I'm just open for Grant's/Supporters.

Hello @Nikhil Kamath, thank you to you and all the great panelists in this video. I want to ask about the form/application/poll where we can submit our profiles to be considered as one of the 20 selected candidates. My partner has been playing games even before he could speak a word, in my honest opinion, and I know he has watched this video, but I want to push him further to pursue his dream of cracking a career in gaming. I am off Instagram, but if you could let me know here where I can find the application link, I will do the necessary from my end. Thank you once again for paying it forward - it goes a long way.
