Brother Ali Hammuda is great orator. I am a Muslim revert (ex-Christian) and through Brother Ali I have learned so much about this beautiful religion. I am watching this series both as a way to learn the deeper meaning of the Salah as a non-Arabic speaker and a revert (as someone who didn’t pray in this fashion growing up). His Change of Heart series was especially moving, and I watched that series at a time when I had only recently reverted (maybe a month only). It was my introduction to this beautiful religion of peace called Islam. My comments, however, will be such: I am a Westerner and a Latin-American. I also study Political Science, and I do believe the brothers focus to much on “hijab-lessness” for the women. I am not debating that Muslim women need to wear hijabs: but what I am saying is that hijabs are only a small part of the life of Muslim women. It is somewhat patriarchal to reduce the experience of our sisters in faith to their attire. I encourage all of our brothers to speak with our sisters on their experiences with Islam: it might even be insightful. I only mention patriarchy so as the brothers may be educated. Patriarchy is not a Western ideology: it is in fact a form of Western oppression (and I am claiming this as a student of Political Science and Political History). Islam is traditionally not a patriarchal religion, and we can see this in the Quran. But following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the invasion of British and French colonialists, Westerns introduced THEIR ideologies of men as superiors and women as inferiors (patriarchy). To combat patriarchy one must make an effort to treat men and women as equals. This is not to say that women should take off their hijabs. But in the same manner we respect men with authority, we ought to respect women with authority. And the same fashion we love our sons, we will love our daughters. Of course, men and women will always be divided- this is the order that Allah has created, but let no sex seek power over the other sex. Let both sexes live harmoniously with each other. In other words: Men, treat your wives with respect. And more importantly, listen to your wives when they have complaints or aspirations. Hopefully with this insight, we can move forward as an ummah

Lecture notes ✍🏻 1. Ar razi said in tafseer Al kabeer; Surah fatiha have more than 10,000 rulings. 2. Why recitation of Qur’an is ordained in the standing position after Al Fatiha? Prophet saaw said i’ve been prohibited from reciting Qur’an in prostration ( sajdah). 3. Ibn Al Qayyam said; the fact that the Qur’an recitation is ordained in standing position may be because Qur’an recitation is the most honourable thing you do in Namaz and you do that in your most honourable position. That is standing. (Perhaps). Honourable position. 4. Engage your body, soul and mind in salah the next time you stand up for salah and recite a bit of Qur’an. 5. If we didnt knew what is expected of us, to do and not to do’s after salah, we have not unlocked the maximum of what the salah expected of us. 6. Engage with recitation, expose your heart to it. Don’t go through it like poetry. 7. Huzaifa ibn Al yaman; prophet saaw when came across to ayah of mercy he saaw would pause and ask for it , and when he came across ayah of wrath he would pause and Ask Allah swt his mercy and his protection. 8. Don’t remember ayah just for tajweed and for the reason of passing your salah rather make it a journey of inspiration. 9. Umar RA once heard a man reciting “The Punishment of your lord is coming and no body can avert it” Umar ra said i swear by the lord of ka’aba this is the truth, got ill and was ill for an entire month. Ya salaam such a connection. 10. A single ayah changed Sahaba’s lives, where are we ! 11. Abdullah ibn Abbas was told your brother/son had died; he mounted off the camel and offered two units of prayer, when asked why, he said Because Allah swt said seek help with PATIENCE AND SALAH! 🫶🏻 12. Ayisha ra recited a single ayah for hours and hours. 13. Its not our salah did anything for us, its we didnt do anything for our salah. JazakAllah o khair.
