Beauty products is a hard one. I’m an esthetician (who waxes) and I’m CONSTANTLY trying new things to see whether or not the large price tag is worth it, whether or not something can serve multiple purposes, this that and the other. It’s hard to do this minimalist thing when you work in the beauty industry and there’s a million different skin types. And don’t even get me started on trying out different products to see if they work or not. That can rack up a lot of money fast.

🌿Please bring Bea Johnson on the show! Zero waste has become so misunderstood. As a family of four living in an area far from big cities we do our best with our resources. There are so many things we can do!! This has led me to go further into minimalism which now my husband and my six year old has too! 🌿

Exactly. I own 2 lipsticks a darker and lighter shade does great as a lip stain, cheek stain, sometimes eyeshadow when mixed with little vaseline and I am done.

Yes, supporting local businesses and farmers is a great way to start, and it supports your community! Learning which companies and businesses are ethical in their production and how they treat their staff. Also, where food is concerned, ask yourself what you can do to provide certain foods for yourself, your household, and perhaps your neighborhood or community. Do you have the space to do urban or suburban gardening? Can you and your community find a way to build a Community Garden? What methods for your gardening will be the least harmful toward the environment and your health and the health of your community?

I'm on board wih 95% of the points being made in this conversation. Good episode. I'd like to point out that I think there's a lot of misunderstanding around the issue of red meat and it's affects on the environment. Instead of stating flatly to "eat less red meat". I think it is better to suggest eating less grain-fed beef and more grass-fed beef. There's a lot of evidence showing that grass-fed beef, and regenerative farming techniques could actually create a very effective carbon sink and help reverse global climate change by improving grasslands. There are a number of good TED talks on the subject if anyone is interested. Anyway, keep up the good work guys.

The activist is a great skincare alternative that is refillable as well. Its not completely zero waste but it is low waste. You buy the first set of products then the refillables come in a pouch. It's a four step process. I've heard great things. Its a lot less packaging than traditional products. So if skincare is something that you feel you need this is a good alternative.

Just subscribed, And I've been using ONLY Water on My face for a long time, I always felt soap or any other product wasn't best for my face. I've always had clear skin and usually when it isn't it revolves around putting Some chemical on it, It don't even use lotion, sometimes coconut oil, also its "Magnificent Mile"

I saw the netflix documentary I am taking on the minimalist lifestyle....well as much as i can, and so far i feel great, even though i have only taken care of my Personal items (bring on the kids toys)......My question, with fathers day in australia and my birthday coming up, im torn for gift ideas and people keep asking. Normally people will buy me a cheap shirt, a magazine, sometimes a book. these are the items i am trying to minimize/avoid as these are all the items i seem to be moving out of my house. Thoughts, suggestions... Love your work, its opened my eyes and mind to waste and junk

One thing that I realised and found funny in the past few years is how women believe that they have to use toner, cleanser, moisturer (and much much more that I can't think of because I don't use these things) in order to keep their skin 'healthy' whereas guys, as far as I'm aware, generally use nothing aside from aftershave. This is just one example and there are many more areas of life in which the average western women is convinced that they need so many items and variations of those items.

So they're explaining all sorts of use of minimalism in daily lives, but aren't you supposed to know it by only knowing what the message of minimalism is?

@@dralezero yeah, you're right, but I think that if you fully understand the concept, that you also will understand the details in living such a live(of course, you can also be helped with it). Its like life; if you understand/know what you're living for, in what way, the small things will you understand too.
