Anyone else embarrassed by how cautious we were being with the life vests, no? Just us? 😂😂😂Better safe than sorry, but have to say our comfort with being on the water is way higher now than on that first day. Can't wait to share us actually getting out on the water, sails up and thriving. Fair Winds and Following Seas everyone ❤❤❤

Hi guys - we can thoroughly relate to your journey with all its ups and downs! We have just recently retired and are sinking our lives' savings into having a boat built and move aboard. Incidentally our chosen model is a Broadblue 346 - a direct descendant of the Prout 37. Like you we are almost complete newbies to boating, although our cat will be mastless - a solar electric slow trawler equipped with only a kite sail. Our mad plan was born just before the pandemic, and the delays resulting from the malignant combo of Brexit, Covid, the Ukraine war and the sheer complexity of our eco tech (most of which is brand new to market) being installed in Poland while we currently still live in England has been our main bugbear. However we expect to splash in May at long last, and plan to then slowly move through the European inland waterways towards the Mediterranean. Our kids are grown up so aside from guests we will be getting to grips with liveaboard life as a couple (admittedly of almost 40 years' standing). Starting vlogging is part of the plan and will of course be a steep learning curve. We are glad to have found you and will be following your adventures closely.

Wow! Congrats on the boat! Had not heard of it but from looking at the site it is an absolute beauty! Seems like you are about to be kicking off this adventure as well :) Good luck with the splash in May and if you have any questions dont hesitate to reach out! Great job on fire safety. As someone who lives on a boat now you need to watch weather every day. Last thing you want is to be caught off guard for a major storm that could sink the boat. So great you're living your best life.

I bought a catamaran of the same vintage, it is a 1978 Sailcraft Comanche, for many of the same reasons, the space, stability, and the fact that it is so overbuilt. I also don't have a ton of sailing experience, so it is nice having a boat that will be fine if I am not perfect. The prior owner said he hit a coral head under full sail, zero damage, try that with the Lagoon. The Prout catamarans are great boats and well known for their ability, I think you made a fine choice.

@@patrickandmichaela speaking as a doctor - the elasticated acupressure SeaBands available from chemists are equally as effective as any antinausea meds and can be combined with them. Also, any antihistamine taken as a tablet (rather than an ointment) will also work against nausea - the older ones are sedating which can be helpful at times (e.g. for insomnia) while the newer longer acting ones aren't.

Great to see you both getting settled into your new life and I've no doubt there's going to be some good times ahead for you both. It's completely normal to be apprehensive about such a big change so the mini-meltdown was no surprise. I've got no doubts in my mind though that you'll sail through it all there (pun intended 😉). With regards the "The Office" discs not working it could be something as simple as the region code on them. I don't know if you guys are aware but DVDs come with a region code which is specific to where the copyright lies for where they're manufactured. So if the DVD player is US-based it'll play region 1 discs, but the discs might be from Europe which makes them region 2 and not compatible with the player. However, it might be that the DVD player will play them on entering a code via the remote control (some players are multi-region and can recognise the disc straightaway but others need a code put in which switches the player to the new region).

Congratulations on an awesome boat and becoming liveaboards! This is a boat we've really been considering upgrading to, so we're really looking foreward to seeing more of the boat and your journey. Is the noise from water slamming under the boat as loud as it sounded in some parts of this video? This has been one of our concerns because of the clearence between the bridge deck and the water. Happy sailing from fellow liveaboards in Norway!
@patrickandmichaela
@patrickandmichaela 6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes, the bridge height is quite low compared to most modern day catamarans. I will say, the waves hitting on mooring / anchor is noticeable, but after living on the boat a while not as much. When purchasing the boat we went out sailing with the owner and he prepared us for the donkey slaps by saying "Once in a while a wave will hit and it will be so loud you are certain that the boat has broken in half and it is time to abandon ship, after about 800 of these you will not even flinch knowing the snowgoose will get you there in one piece". I would definitely get out on the water and see if it is up your alley, we love our new floating home

I just found the channel when you started posting about catamarans. I may have missed it, but I was curious if you two have sailing experience? Personally, I taught myself how to sail back when I was 24. At the time, I didn't even know anyone that sailed or had even been on a sailboat. lol

look into getting a hand drill snake to clear any plumbing issues. It won't always work but it should do the job about 50% of the time and save you some money in the long run. It should also work in the toilet and bathroom sinks as well. Just go slow and pay attention to how the cable feels as you run it.

@@patrickandmichaela just make sure to get the thinnest toilet snake available as marine plumbing is much narrower than domestic (the main reason it tends to clog up after a while) ...

Ohh a danish boat! Not from denmark but a neighbour country (Norway). Noticed the danish flags and the mackerel in danish haha. Kinda weird setup in the boat with the big bed up top???? Is there not a "master" somewhere lower in the boat? Incredibly unpractical to sleep up top like that so hope you have another bedroom on the boat and not in the middle of the "living room".
@patrickandmichaela
@patrickandmichaela 5 ай бұрын
Previous owners were indeed danish! And wow do they love their mackerel. Was a lovely couple and their 2 boys. It is a smaller boat and I would say the main saloon bed is the "master", it is where we sleep after all! Impractical is a matter of perspective in what you can make a practicality 😂 There are 3 other cabins for sleeping, with different levels of practicality as well :)

Why do you half to disable the Moter in the starlink
@patrickandmichaela
@patrickandmichaela 6 ай бұрын
For whatever reason, the way that they designed it, when it readjusts itself it completely cuts off the connection until it is realigned. It turns out with the coverage available the unit will realign way more often than it actually needs to, so if you disable the motor you remove the 5-10 second cut outs of it adjusting.

On all of your canned foods take off the labels. Write on the cans what's inside and dates of expiration. Bugs will lay eggs on the labels and the next thing you know you'll have an infestation.
