Episode 2 of my attempt to set the overall Fastest Known Time in under six days on the 341 mile Sheltowee Trace.
This is where it all began for me, by setting my first FKT in 2019 going Self-Supported and the first ever Unsupported FKT in 2021. I just missed setting the overall by 5 hours and I was unable to shake the thought of possibly coming back one day to attempt to set the new overall fastest time.
At that same time, it also occurred to me that if I did come back one more time, I would try to go supported with a crew and complete the trifecta of FKT’s on the Trace, with having held an FKT in each of the three categories. I attempted to accomplish this in 2021 but fell short at 1/3 of the way through due to poor weather. Will my fourth and final attempt be successful?
On this attempt I carried my Garmin Inreach mini and wore a Corus Apex watch for verification. For shoes I wore mostly the Altra Olympus 4.0’s, but also Topo Ultraventure 2's and Topo Pursuit's with Darn Tough socks and Dirty Girl Gators. My trekking poles were Fizan Compact 3 aluminum poles. My running vest was a Salomon ADV Skin 5.

Man really felt for you trying to rest with that 4 wheeler rolling around at midnight. And for the guys losing that crate! Ugh that would trying to back track to find it then come up empty handed. Great job on these videos. Looking forward to the next chapter.

So glad that crate wasn’t essential for my attempt! That would’ve been horrible if it was a crate full of shoes! Thanks for watching AJ, I really appreciate it! I’m having so much fun editing these!

Go Jason go! Your lower shin looked like it had a grapefruit under the shin. Wild. I can’t imagine how long it took you to feel physically recovered after this was over. Excited for the next one!

Thanks for checking it out Samuel! After six weeks I am finally just about back to 100% and ready to start running a little bit again. I am actually pacing John Hardin tomorrow for about 20-30 miles on his Natchez trace FKT attempt down here in Mississippi!

Incredible!! Hey, a place i finally recognize bc I've been there! The Pinch em Tight Trailhead! Man that bridge sure would have been handy! Funny that the guy was nice enough to let you camp there... made ya a fire... and then kept you up with his 4 wheeler! Doesn't seem to jive! You looked pretty out of it. Not sure part 3 looks much better... looking forward to checking it out!

Pinch em Tight was certainly a popular place when I ran through there! Yeah, I was so ticked when that guy wouldn't shut up...I about lost my mind and he cost me some critical sleep! Things will get worse before they get better haha! Thanks for tuning in Mark, I appreciate it!

It would never happen. My older son enjoys, relaxing, sauntering backpacking trips but my other son has no interest in backpacking or running
