This is more common in red state than people want to admit. Real estate tycoons, wealthy business owners, owners of construction companies get elected to office and pretend to propose projects to better roads, improve housing, etc with huge budgets....years down the line the projects haven't started yet, but where's the money? It's money laundering through the state.

I live in a small town with no more than ~5000 people and we have a non-profit called recovery cafe for people overcoming addiction, homelessness, trauma, etc. Rena Kay Thompson, the ex-director was caught just last year having stolen ~$450,000 over two years. Spending on stuff like Amazon purchases and trips to Las Vegas. People are sick
