Ep. 21: How Does a Farrier Shoe an Arthritic Horse?

Just curious, why keep shoes on this horse instead of leaving him barefoot? I've never dealt with a crippled/arthritic horse, but here in Colorado most of the people I know keep their horses barefoot unless they're riding a lot or need some sort of corrective shoes.

That is an excellent question. Our vet is working directly with our farrier to be sure that he is as comfortable as possible. The vet’s approach was that the show would assist with his balance and footing given that he is quite unbalanced at this point with the arthritis in his knee.
