ya… UNTIL the limp starts… then it’s on the farmer in my mind. I’m admittedly very ignorant on this stuff…but I mean that other channel seems to have WAY worse feet in the thumbnails…where I sit back and it’s like “how could you NOT know something was wrong?!?! But I guess it could be just a situation where you have SO many cattle… it’s easy for me to judge based on my ONE cat and ONE dog and how I notice them…

My pupper had not been to our cabin in TWO weeks (as we missed a weekend there) and she was so excited, running around on the gravel, rocks & terrain that she began to show subtle signs of pain to which I myself was oblivious...but she did not stop herself. I made her come to me & I examined her feet & was astounded to see she was bleeding and had, in a very short few minutes, torn up her pads. I treated her feet by cleaning them and I devised a bandage out of many of my fluffy socks...folding up a pad (to which I applied an antibiotic medicine with analgesic qualities) under each paw. I then put a sock on each foot,, securing them with duct tape above where her declaws were with a belt of tape which was tight enough to hold them in place without constricting blood flow. She looked adorable and was comfortable with the temporary solution. Our cabin is water access only and for both human and animal injuries, we would not boat back (or call the heli-ambulance) unless an injury was life threatening. Had my small son not noticed her pain I would NOT have checked her as the pain (at that point) did not stop her tearing around at top speed & bounding in the air in all-out Wheatie glee. Without his concern, I would have assumed...from her undiminished velocity and excitement...that she was uninjured. He is, however, very empathic towards animals and feels both their intense emotions & spikes of contrary emotions that I myself am oblivious to....but I trust his ability and so, simply called her to me. I am SO GLAD I listened to my tiny manling as her injury did not worsen due to my swift intervention (at HIS request) & my rather crude attempt at a temporary fix. She "settled down" and walked around rather gingerly (but without setting off the child's alarm) for the rest of the day/weekend, so we simply took her in on the Monday & had her cleared by the vet. She needed no treatment and was healing nicely, he said. I checked her feet each night (to access if I needed to boat her in before Sunday night) replacing the inner pads and reapplying the outer protective socks. The injury occurred late Friday night after we arrived (as we were unpacking the boat & setting up the cabin) and boating on THAT lake and river is super dangerous in the dark...so you don't rush down for any minor human or critter injury. The point was, she was wearing the adhoc bandages and the vet himself LAUGHED and LAUGHED as I tended towards wearing mismatched "pairs" of these really cute fluffy socks and she had on one (if memory serves correct) zebra striped sock, one black & white striped sock, a hot neon pink sock and a pink polka dot sock. It's so important to listen to those more intuitive than oneself...even those itty bitty humans...as it's astounding how fast she injured herself. Had I ignored him, her injuries would have been far worse. One of our neighbours further up the lake is a vet-tech, so we called her on the marine radio and she agreed to boat down in the morning to check her feet and assess if I SHOULD take her in THAT morning...or if she, Nomie, deemed it safe to wait until Monday. She kindly arrived slightly after dawn, gently examined her feet, assessed her moments and mood, complimented my small son & reassured him it was unnecessary to boat her down prior to the scheduled return trip the next evening before dusk. The kindness of people is such a beautiful thing...and we can learn from the smallest and youngest, as well as peers & those older than oneself. It SEEMS preternatural (but is simply natural) how PERCEPTIVE certain rare human beings ARE. I've never met anyone who shares my son's sensitivity, but I trust it implicitly, as I know he is invariably right when he feels any creature needs to be checked.

@@DanceintheRaine666 This is an incredible story, your son is very gifted! I’m glad the pupper is okay. It’s hard to realize that they’re hurting when they tend to prioritize their excitement over their pain. My own dog once jumped off a whole CLIFF to get to us faster, and he was running up to us so happily that we didn’t even notice him limping at first! It was a pretty short cliff luckily, but it really goes to show how much these precious animals love us and love everything in life, and they won’t let anything get in their way

Just a suggestion. A small strong neodymium magnet would be ideal to check if there was any of that old nail still in the wound. Lots of those things can break off and even though you pulled it out you can't tell if you got it all by looking at what you removed. A small magnet would stick to the hoof. Then a large one could pull out the remainder of the nail with out the need to cut into the flesh causing more damage. I am sure some of these ulcers could have been cause by punctures that are no longer apparent. Checking them all with a magnet could help even if only 1 in a hundred had some type of nail or screw left deep inside. A quick magnet test over any problem area would not add to much time to the process and if it saved just one cow it would have been well worth the small investment.

@DanceintheRaine666 Жыл бұрын
@@benmccanain5504 in my experience, some/many animals respond to your emotion. We were taught as little kids to be both aware of our emotions and that of the much larger more powerful farm animals. We learned you can not feel fear (not merely feign fearlessness, but simply feel no fear) when dealing with animals who could seriously injure you if they themselves are hurt or shocked. When you feel a deep and genuine love and respect for animals, they sense that and are far more calm than they might otherwise be. Yes, the legs are immobilized, but a frightened animal will almost invariably freeK out if a farrier gets ANGRY, but if they remain CALM, the horse (in this case) calms down. Animals respond to LOVE and COMPASSION as well as FEAR, and anyone who works well with animals knows not to fear them, as that emotion is transfered to the perhaps already frightened animal, and can, in the case of predator species, provoke an attack, and in the case of prey species (such as cows & horses) intensify their flight instincts. You have to calm them regardless if they are restrained or not. I've seen a horse go ballistic when treated by an angry farrier, which could injure the animal (or the farrier). We would never entrust an animal to a vet or farrier who himself did not have a calm loving and gentle personality. Even the most frightened animal, in my experience, will realize you are trying to help them if you remain calm (even if they are frightened or in pain). Even the most abused creatures respond to love and patience. It's rather inspiring.

Sounds like a great item to add to a auxiliary "first aid kit" for remote areas. I supplemented our professional first aid kit with various products to ease treatable minor injuries such as those that can/do occur when you are far from roads. Benadryl, Epi-pens, "Bounce" fabric sheets (tied in the hair they are a far more effective mosquito/deer fly repellent than ANY DEET product), THERMA PIC, calomine lotion, sterile contact lens solution, chewable Vitamin C (for small mouth wounds, to speed healing) and various herbal Extracts, to name a few. There are many minor injuries or conditions which though not "serious" nor life threatening are irritating or unpleasant. One such condition was the 70+ mosquito bites on a fat little toddler paw (which had poked out from the velcro opening of his bespoke "hermetically sealed" mosquito shield) one night. It was as if he had a GLOVE of mosquito bites covering every surface of his exposed fist. He was horribly (understandably) upset and a dear neighbor was prepared whereas I (who was new to lake life) had no such knowledge. Denise calmed him and administered Benadryl and coated his ravioli fist with calamine. The incessant need to scratch was soothed and he was far more happy thereafter. The kindness of a then stranger was such a boon to my child.

Imagine how people were 5,000 years ago without God’s True Book. How would they have known how they were supposed to live? How would they have known how they were supposed to be in order to please their Creator? So God gave the law of Moses back then. This law was for the people to know how to be. They saw what God expected out of them. God had high expectations from the Israelites. Why shouldn't He? Should He drop His expectations for love and grace? If He drops His expectations to accommodate what man wants, then He compromised His perfection for man’s imperfection. Does a Perfect God compromise His perfection? So God has expectations once He tells His creation how He wants things. His love and grace gives His creation time to change. He is willing to help them change if they ask Him. Then His creation, while repenting or changing to do His will, see His Beauty. This is a relationship formed now with the Creator. If He is the Most Beautiful Being, which He is, how can His creation not want to obey Him? How can His creation not want to please Him? The reason why is because of foolishness. Man loves his own foolishness rather than God’s wisdom, Jn 3:19. Man loves his sin. If anyone loves himself, he will stay in sin. So man who stays in sin rejects his perfect Creator or Father, and exchanges it for his own foolishness. So now fast forward to today where we have God’s True Book. We officially know what God wants. God gave His creation a big help, the Word, to show us how He wants us to live. If we follow His perfect teachings, we all live with perfect peace, love, joy and unity. This is His perfect design for His children's lives. When we go against His perfect design for what we want, sin, we throw away that perfect plan. We throw away that perfect peace, love, joy and unity. Giving up these things is foolish. So sinning against God proves to be the worst plan for us! God wanted to help mankind. God wanted to save man from his foolishness. He wanted to help us the best way possible because He is Good. The best and only way to do it, as God saw fit, was to give mankind His Son. Why? The Son is the Word, Jn 1:1. The Word always obeys the Father's will. The Father's will is spoken through His Word. The Word proceeds forth from the Father's will and mind. So the Word that God speaks is the pure sequel to what was inside the Father's mind and heart. Jesus is that perfection manifest. He is the physical embodiment of God's will and thought. God's will and thought is expressed through His Word. Jesus, the human part, is the perfect, physical expression of God. Jesus, the human part that walked this earth, came to teach us the perfect will of God. How? He did this by example. This is why Jesus walked this earth perfectly without sinning. So Jesus taught us perfectly. He even was willing to die not only death, but the death He did not deserve since He never sinned against God the Father. He chose to give His life. That's why Jesus says no man forces Him to lay down His life, He chose to lay it down, Jn 10:18. God wanted to save mankind. Jesus wants what the Father wants. The Word always obeys the will. He shed even His perfect, pure blood for us. His blood is the fulfillment of perfect obedience to the Father. Why? Because the Son asked 3 times in the Garden, "Take my cup not by my will but by yours." The Father said the Son still had to shed His blood on the cross. The Son obeyed the Father's will over His own. So the blood was shed for that purpose. Nobody else had that kind of blood. Nobody else pleased the Father perfectly like the Son. So now instead of the law of Moses showing us the way to live rightly in God's eyes, we have the Son. This is the New Covenant. In Jesus and His blood, we now obey Him instead of the Mosaic law as part of this new agreement between man and God. So as man wants to live rightly to please His Creator, man now must turn to the Word of the Creator. So obeying the perfect teachings of Jesus brings us to how God wants us to live. The Son conquered the grave. The grave is the end of all who sin. The grave is the payment for sin. Satan founded the grave. How? Because Satan started death by being the first to sin against Almighty God. Jesus destroyed Satan's creation and fulfills the very first prophecy spoken of the Savior in Genesis 3:15. That's why Jesus came to "...destroy the works of the devil," 1 Jn 3:8. Satan came to ruin God's Creation with sin. Jesus came to ruin Satan's creation, death, with perfect obedience, which His blood shed proves. That's why in His blood, there is life. So the Gospel is God's reconciliation with man. How? Only through the Son. If you disobey the Son, you disobey the Father. Jesus says, “He who has seen me has seen the Father,” Jn 14:9. Repent and accept Jesus as Your Lord NOW!!! Then start to read the Gospels and obey His commands. Follow Jesus only, no other man, no religion. Only Jesus. Imagine how people were 5,000 years ago without God’s True Book. @DanceintheRaine666
@DanceintheRaine666 Жыл бұрын
I loved how the nurses were so loving, empowering and kind to my former hubster during the 9 months he was hospitalized following two strokes on January 8, 2008. Doctors could cause him to spiral into depression or sadness with some off the cuff comment such as "His moving his leg is 'nothing to be excited about, when he can WALK, be excited about THAT" and "You're going to plateau and no amount of effort will yield a positive result" and "What you do not recover in X days/weeks/months...you will NEVER regain." Each of which is bulldhit and unkind. The NURSES who overheard such comments bristled with protective anger and when I questioned THEM after these "Profesionals" had left, they felt such comments were detrimental. It took a lot of time & energy to help him not spiral into the depths of depression, and in sk many cases, I who was there almost every day for 8 or more hours a day, saw many instances where Doctors made ABI patients feel much worse EMOTIONALLY than they had prior to their daily visit. I saw innumerable instances of love and kindness given to such patients: a gentle hand on a shoulder to comfort, waves of compassion or repressed anger at said Doctors, so many loving PROFESSIONAL kindnesses which HELPED their patients. I endeavored to THANK each and every nurse who cared for my loved one (whether they had overseen his safety at night when I was absent) or during the day when I observed them being empathic and compassionate to any of their patients. What surprised me was their reactions to my simple voiced positive truths: as clearly FEW PEOPLE thank them for the incredible job they do. So, THANK YOU for the kindnesses you extend to your human patients. I suspect you KNOW such small things help, but I can attest THEY HELP SO VERY VERY MUCH. In truth; much of my "support" was in convincing my husband that the doctors were asshats and utterly WRONG with their WORSE CASE SCENARIO opinions. Every ABI guy in that ward who DID NOT GIVE UP improved...those who either refused to try or gave up...did not improve. Neuroplasticiity is a scientific fact (and had been proven even then) and no specialist was as negative and destructive in their comments as were MOST DOCTORS, some occupational therapists, physical therapists and the rare speech pathologist, each of whom told him "no matter HOW HARD YOU TRY, you'll never get any better." No NEVER ever discouraged a patient from TRYING their best and being EXCITED about each small improvement. I can not even begin to imagine the "recovery rate" of ABI/TBI patients WERE NURSES not there to undo the damage done by their supposed "superiors". What I saw day in day our was nothing short of incredible. Well done.

Nate, is it unfeasible to drag a magnet over the pasture? We had a mere 7.35 acres and we kids periodically dragged magnets over the surface of the soil to remove any metal which might have worked its way to the surface, the rationale being our cows & horses would be protected by this preventative step. We DID inevitably find screws, nails & pieces of sharp metal but maybe our parents were just keeping us busy with a pointless task, which would be hilarious. I am curious as to the practiCOWity of this.

hm that gloop coming out of the hole doesn't seem like bodily discharge - is that stuff moisture and gunk from the ground that's gotten sucked up through the hole as the cow walks around? Seems at a glance similar to how potholes form, where water infiltrates through a small crack, and the repetitive running over of the area results in a sucking action that creates a cavity that exerts further pressure, causing delamination of the asphalt from the sub.. blanking on the term, but the immediate aggregate under the asphalt lol. The analogous situation here would be hoof delaminating from other parts of the hoof, or from the corium... but perhaps I've just let my imagination run off, I am prohibitively tired atm =p
