No matter whether you’re working on something that’s important to someone else or yourself, even at a domestic level, having a certain level of work ethic is a pre-requisite I entertained the idea of quite quitting for a little bit but immediately realised it doesn’t translate when it comes to your own circle of influence I.e family, friends etc. which whether we’re in a capitalistic society or not, is going to take a level of work. I know people are disgruntled with capitalism right now and for good reason, especially because of what our society holds as the standard for a what a good life is. I also understand that for some people quite quitting feels like the only option but it only accounts for the reduction of effort as opposed to being more intentional with that effort. If these ideas around the deep life could be translated into a school curriculum or something that’s more easily digestible for children, I think there’d be a lot of interesting conversations to be had from the results of that. There’s a lot of things that come intuitively to children that a lot of us have forgotten and presence & play hold some of the key to us getting back to that in adult life

Can you guys make a deep work, new productivity workshops downstairs in the newly vacant space? Really nice to give that craftsmanship feel to do some of this work in person with you guys

I worry about all this. I've noticed that I have had a hard time getting important things done because people aren't doing their work. My sons medicaid hadn't gotten filed and I'm going to get stuck with a big bill. My mail isn't getting delivered. Somequestions i needed answered by a government agency have been on hold for 8 mo. As I right this out I see th ese are all government agencies... Restaurants too though and hotels have been crazyily understaffed. I was at a restaurant and there was one young cook in the back who looked like he had just given up. There were only a couple people eating and it was a 40 min wait. I worry that. These jobs aren't meaningless and that workmatters to keep things humming!

People just doing their jobs, rather than trying to impress, is a part of every economy - it's what most people do, since trying to impress can only get you so far. There are only so many managerial/executive positions to compete for. Everyone tops out what they can successfully compete for eventually. What you are observing is that there simply aren't enough people to do the jobs that need doing. Before the pandemic, the Governor of Bank of Canada was telling people that the Canadian economy was "at capacity" and incapable of higher rates of growth - why? Availability of labour. COVID accelerated retirements, and (baby) boomers are called boomers for a reason, not as many people follow them. There was also a small trend of people leaving employment to start businesses during COVID. If those businesses depend on scale to be successful, those people will likely return to the workforce sooner or later because they have to compete for same dwindling pool of workers.

Hi Cal. This red ticker on the right is annoying. It is not looking professional. It is overlapping with your video.

Jump to 4:50 and, he still repeats himself. Not worth being here but once.
