All facets of your film making seem to be getting better and better, from conversational story-telling to photography, to editing, to musical volume/balance/choice, historical perspectives, your lives together on the Nutshell and everything else. Brilliant! And huge double-bonus--you didn't blow yourself up again, and seem to be healing nicely from when you did! Thank you so much for entertaining me, a laid-up old ex-sailor, so well. You make watching instead of doing, quite bearable, and it is deeply appreciated....best to you, john

North Queensland, part of God's great garden. Wishing I was there now rather than in lockdown in cold old Canberra! Mmm fresh bread and butter, is there anything better. I remember the days when you could go to the supermarket and get fresh bread, I think the definition of fresh has changed over time. Thanks for another wonderful episode, Magnetic Island looks fantastic.

Great episode. Love the "hitting the bottom" - its a natural barnacle scrapper after all 😊 🇬🇧 We had a full watch on our main Smart TV. Now on PC watching ! Great Fortifications there. Fascinating commentary throughout as always 👍👍👍

I recognized the fort gun emplacements construction as USA design and details even before you mentioned the gun model. It must have been a great local effort to do all the construction but also transporting the guns and all the standard emplacements hardware all the way from the USA in those times is mind bending to imagine.

Getting new sails for those who don't sail is like replacing the old V6 engine in your car with a new V6 engine. Sometimes even a new V8 engine.

Forget a plug for the sinks. A flat 5 in. flexible plastic disk will do the job but you have to hold it down til the water covers it (33 in stock at Home depot).

Magnus I was told by a local in Darwin that relevant authorities also add distinctive coloring and a bad tasting additive to the vinegar to prevent irresponsible yobbo's from pinching it.

I got it online from Lekue. But I’m not happy with it long term. It has cracked very badly and Lekue won’t answer my emails for warranty. It’s a great product before it cracked.

your bread looks delicious. do you want to share a recipe?
@LifeinaNutshell
@LifeinaNutshell 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Moona. Here’s my basic bread recipe: Basic Bread Recipe Ingredients 500g plain flour 7g yeast (sachets work best because they stay fresh) 150ml warm water Additional water approx 50ml Slug of olive oil Teaspoon salt Teaspoon sugar Method Place 500g plain flour into a large bowl. Add olive oil and salt (place salt around the edges) Place 150ml warm water, yeast and sugar into a container. Steal approximately 2 tablespoons of the flour from the bowl and add to the yeast mixture. Stir and let it sit until the yeast gets excited and the mix ‘grows’, approximately 15 minutes. Make a well in the centre of the flour and gradually pour the yeast mix into the flour and mix with a spoon. Add small amounts of water until it holds together. ‘Knead’ (roll over and poke with your fingers!) the mix in the bowl for about 2 minutes. Cover with a tea towel and leave until doubled in size. Anything from 30 minutes. Push the dough back down and place in a greased loaf tin. Let it rise again until it looks good. If it doesn’t rise much cook it anyway as it will rise a bit in the oven anyway! Cook in preheated oven at about 180 degrees for about 25-30 minutes until you get a hollow sound when you tap it. You’re done. Enjoy!

Magnetic island got its name how?
@LifeinaNutshell
@LifeinaNutshell 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter Lieutenant Cook noticed an anomaly with his compass when he arrived at the island. However later on this anomaly was proven to be something on his ship and not the island. The island kept its name.
