A king named Cheraman perumal saw the moon split from my place in Kerala, India and he enquired about it to some sahaba’s reached my place. He then went to madeena, met our prophet and accepted Islam. He asked his people to build a mazjid in my place. Please search in the internet to see the mazjid. What an excellent series on the proofs of prophethood Muhammad pbuh who was a mercy to the worlds. In the darkest period of humanity Allah sent light unto the world to bring humanity back to the worship of One God. His prophethood and the Quran is proof for mankind, if only they come to it with a sincere heart. Our religion Islam is rational,intelligent and full of wisdom if we use our faculties. Hello, So this is a simplistic explanation but there no sources to refer to this that was written at the time of the event except quran itself. The collection of hadiths that were written about this event date back to 200 years or so from the passing of the prophet. So it's very very fuzzy

Cracks and splits in the Earth's surface are common occurrences, and there are many places where such events happen, like the large earth crack in South Africa
