2VNews Adam Smith and Locke were advanced thinkers but their ideas, as advanced as they were, didn't anticipate things like the negatives the activity our economic modality causes. Or just that the planet has a finite carrying capacity and economic models that don't take this basic fact into account aren't sustainable. The signs are already appearing. Poverty and debt are climbing, the middle class is disappearing, pollution is worse traffic is worse....our government isn't getting shit accomplished yet the debt ceiling approaches etc etc etc. The film Moving Forward gives the details. Start at chapter 2 40minutes in. It's free on KZbin and Netflix. The shortcomings of the ideas of Smith and Locke are made clear.
@2vnews9027 жыл бұрын
Brandon Bakhtiar, nonsense. The problem is government. The Problem Federal government has the open checkbook of multiple generations of Americans, with no real restraint. Uncontrollable federal government spending is a major problem and most Americans have no knowledge about it. Politicians talk a good game about fiscal responsibility, but the facts speak for themselves. We have a national debt nearing $20 trillion which comes to about $158,730 per household if paid in one lump sum. $20 trillion in debt proves that entitlements and safety nets should not be in the hands of the federal government. The national debt keeps increasing because of deals, aka compromises, between Democrats (social programs and entitlements) and Republicans (corporate welfare and defense). The main thing extending judgement day is the world’s faith in the US economy, its ability to pay and the worldwide demand for the US dollar. But this is not limitless. The Solution There is only one way to restore accountability at the federal level, we have to pass an amendment that forbids the federal government from being in the benefit/entitlement/subsidy business. Everything else is just a bandage. Benefits, entitlements and subsidies can be done in the states that choose to do them. States will have to prioritize. States have the checkbook of the current generation, but they also have real budgets and real restraints with real consequences. States could offer all the benefits voters can dream of, but they would have to tax their voters to pay for it. There would be no borrowing from China, Japan or monetizing of debt to pay for it. This probably will not happen until there is a big enough crisis and all the bandages have been tried. This amendment will be the solution after all other things fail. Leave defense to the federal government and safety nets to the states. Hard lessons about socialism should be learned in the states not at the federal level. Fixing other federal problems will be easier after this amendment. Abolishing the IRS should quickly follow. Focus will then be on defense spending, excessive regulation, government surveillance and the Federal Reserve.
@brandonbakhtiar74517 жыл бұрын
2VNews Agree with your problem assessment. But let's say we do like you say and change or abolish government. How does that enable sustainability, address the basic fact that we can't have a smaller & smaller group controlling more & more of the wealth and expect the rest to remain peaceful/civil. Abolishing the IRS doesn't address that either. Just try to see the film man.

The fact that Cenk cut of the microphone on Peter Schiff speaks volumes about the illegitimacy of Cenk's ideology. Cenk's ridiculous arguments during the Shapiro debate simply further prove this point. As usual, great podcast Peter.

Peter, I sincerely wanted to thank you for what you are doing. And you're absolutely correct when you say it is possible to educate a "liberal/leftist" with facts, logic and common sense. I can personally testify as a person who has had his views shifted almost 180 degrees by listening to people like you and other libertarians/conservatives over the past year. All I needed was an open mind. And this change has really opened up the possibility for me to really 'grow up' in a metaphorical sense and take individual responsibility for my life instead of the pathological idea of expecting the government to 'look after' society and in the process intrude into the personal liberty of the individual. Again, thank you for your work, and please keep it up. Education opens the door to real empowerment.

I wanted to ask for your thoughts on 'Natural Monopolies' Here in London, what is becoming more and more common is the '£5k club' where people spend over £5,000 per year just to get to and from work via trains. Each private train company operates certain train lines we are left with what we consider the most expensive and worst train service in the world. If someone wants to travel from London to another city and back, it can often be closer to £200 per ticket. Do you think in certain scenarios such as this, the government should step in?
