Follow along as I modify my rear fenders on the ongoing WJ project to nicely fit 35" tires with no rubbing. Lots of work went into this but I think it was worth it to achieve a factory look.

That is super clean A+ design and execution. That's the way the factory should have done it.

A good metal fabricator is a joy to behold! A Hammer and Dolly man! And WJ's are great platforms. You have a winner there. Looks like what I was wishing I could do to my WK to take bigger tires, but $ and time constrains. Keep up the great work - I'll be looking forward to seeing this project finished!

Thanks mate. I love when I can drag him away from the video games and get him in the shop. He is 14 and starting to think about driving and cars and has realized his dad has a pretty cool shop and can build just about anything. So his gears are starting to churn. Thanks for watching.

Quick tip air works better than water for cooling those welds.make 3or4 tac’s and hit it with your air nozzle an it cools right down. Nice job by the way.

Really cool work mate wish I had the time patience and skill to do what your doing! Me, I prob would have just hacked away at it with a cutting wheel and slapped some plastic flares on it to cover it all up...... then look back at it in a few weeks time and shake my head in disappointment! Good work bud loving the build.

I really have to tell that you might not be the best at welding, cutting, picking the best methods to do it etc etc but you have something better than all of that combined you get shit done and that's whats beautiful about it you don't look for excuses. You're proof that were there's a will there's a way and learn as you go to make the best out of it and better next time. Hope your work inspires others in starting to get their own hammer and begin bending their own fenders one hit at a time, or handover their hefty cash at you for your exclusive services.

Are you planing on doing anything for rocker protection? I would recommend cutting out the current rockers and replacing with either rectangular tubing or formed steel to match the existing body line if you prefer. This will give you the most clearance and protection at the same time.
@SpiralDesignWorks
@SpiralDesignWorks 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I am making flat sided 1/4" plate rockers. I made prototypes and had to farm out the laser cutting and bending. Should be in the shop in a week or so. If all goes well I will be offering them on my website.

Nice work, but 1 thing us fabricators need to remember is to wear a respirator for everything. Especially pass it on to your kids. We need to learn from past generations that never wore them, and the harm it did putting them into an early grave.

Now you have a bunch of unprotected welds in places that are hard to get to, in a couple of years, will it be rust holes?
@SpiralDesignWorks
@SpiralDesignWorks 4 жыл бұрын
Rust is always a pain. I think somewhere in there you can see where I shot paint into the cavities to try and seal them up. I was also able to spray the quarters from the inside. I also live in Florida, so rust here is not a problem.

Would you ever consider recreating this again? I’d love to have mine done. I’m not sure our body guys are competent enough for this😂
@SpiralDesignWorks
@SpiralDesignWorks 5 жыл бұрын
I am trying to figure out if fiberglass reproductions would help. Would still require lots of cutting and welding. At my current shop rate it would be a few grand easy to accomplish again from scratch.

What is the series number on those Bilstein Shocks? I have 5100's on a 3 inch lift on my WJ and am looking to put Bilsteins on a 6 inch lift like yours.
@SpiralDesignWorks
@SpiralDesignWorks 5 жыл бұрын
I believe they are 5100's. I would have to go look.
@papaschuette
@papaschuette 5 жыл бұрын
@@SpiralDesignWorks I actually had to use the weight of my truck in order to get the 5100's to bolt up. They are the 46mm monotube 5100's. They have way to short of travel for what I've done. I have a 3 inch budget boost from Supreme Suspensions on it. And all it came with was the 5100 shocks and 3 inch pucks. That I later put 3 inch longer than stock springs on. For a total of 6 inches of lift. Looking back I should have just done a 6 inch long arm and been done. Instead of piecing it together. Lesson learned I guess.

WAY TOO MUCH WELDING DUDE WAKE UP ITS NOT THE FRAME
@SpiralDesignWorks
@SpiralDesignWorks 5 жыл бұрын
WJ's don't have frames. What exactly would you suggest? I always fully weld body panels on any project. Stitch welding is not acceptable for me. You then have to rely on plastic filler to finish the joints which will always lead to cracks and paint failures.
