Grand Adventure

Күн бұрын

Boondocking campsites in and around Virgin, Utah are close to Zion National Park, but that's hardly their only attraction. You'll find amazing hiking, mountain biking, sightseeing and scenic beauty thoughout the area, not just inside the Park. Come camping with Grand Adventure to see much of what this desert region of southern Utah has to offer.
Filmed on location March 31-April 1, 2018.

ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a KZbin channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on KZbin, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

Hi Mark Great film. We hope your friends have many happy Grand Adventures in their RPods. Vermont is a lovely place we visited 2 Falls ago and really enjoyed it. Thanks again. Phil and Juliet.

Thanks for the nice video and great scenery! I have spent the past 2 winters in Hurricane UT and have hiked a lot on the trails along Sheep Bridge Road, Gooseberry Mesa, Kolob Terrace, etc. Also, congratulations to your friends on the RPods! April 2018 I bought my first camper, a Forest River No Boundaries 16.5, the rugged cousin of the RPod, same footprint and chassis, different body. RPods are admittedly cuter than the NoBo, but the NoBo has incredible window space front and rear, great for taking in the fabulous views of the surroundings! Happy camping!

Same to you, s k! Those No Boundaries rigs are some sweet little trailers - congrats to you as well! There's so much in that area - if it weren't for the crowds Zion it would be nearly perfect.

Hi Mark Stumbled across your channel and are really enjoying it. Imagine our surprise when who shows up but Colin, a friend and ski buddy from VT. It's really a small world. If you see him and Abby before we do please say “Hi” from Milo and Patti in VT. Cheers, Milo

Ha! Small world indeed, Milo! I actually just left them a few days ago after we camped together at Lake Havasu, AZ - episode coming soon. You'll probably see them before I do as they'll be back in Vermont before I return home to Utah.

Enjoy, Kristie! Realize, though, that the whole area around Zion can get crazy busy, and Zion itself can get positively stupid. Personally, we tend to favor some of the less traveled areas around the state.

Much more pleasant video than episode 11. Less crowded! That was nice you taking the other Boondocking on their first time out. I’ll bet you gave them many pointers. Funny that they had identical campers. Was that the same spot you were camped at in Ep. 11? Thanks again Marc.

Ram, it was just down the road from our site from Episode 11. We're all friends, although Arnie and Colin are really tight. I'm not sure who spotted it first, but when one decided that they wanted the R-Pod, the other followed.

It looked warm from the lack of heavy coats. What is the temps like at this time of year. I'd like to spend a bunch of time roaming Utah next year and wondering about timing of the the best temps (70 degrees F please) LOL.

Spring and fall are the best times for southern Utah, but like most places, temperatures in those seasons can vary widely. It was in the low 80s during our visit March 30-April 1, but it could have just as easily been in the low 60s.

Hi guys!! Thanks for posting this!! I actually have a question about moving around with our 27 ft drivable RV. I've see you guys and your camper and wondering if we are going to regret no having an independent smaller vehicle to move around, specially in Utah. Any thoughts? Noelia
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Noelia! It's all a matter of personal preference. We like having a separate trailer to leave that at camp while we go exploring, whereas others like the setup convenience and access while traveling that a motorhome provides. It's all about what's important to you.

What kind of first aid kit for your dogs? We live in Michigan and it seems every region has different things to consider when hiking with your dogs.
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 жыл бұрын
Kristie, we carry a bit of everything -- bandages, meds, wound cleaning materials, etc. A lot of what we carry focuses on the paws, because there are a lot of sharp things around here that can cut their pads. We tend to avoid snakey areas so we haven't gotten them the rattlesnake vaccine, but many dog owners out here do. Something that's almost non-existent out here are ticks.
@HSkyler
@HSkyler 5 жыл бұрын
For rattlesnake bites (and scorpion/bee/wasp, etc.) out in the boondocks, it's a good idea to carry a full pack of Benadryl (quite a benign drug but you can give a lot per lb of body weight every 4 hours) and have your vet supply you with enough prednisone to last a few days. If your dog is bitten these drugs will reduce swelling and turn off the immune system response enough to get them to a vet for further treatment. For "pickers," especially cholla cactus and those teeny tiny red things from prickly pear, carry a good tweezers, magnifying glasses, and pantyhose! LOL The "hose" is to muzzle your dog if s/he won't let you "operate." Or invest in a nylon muzzle. Living in New Mexico for many years with 7 (curious and fast) Dalmatians taught me well. Good travels!
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 жыл бұрын
@@HSkyler excellent advice! I forgot about the Benadryl, yes we keep that in our dog first aid kit, too. The Prednisone is a great idea.
@HSkyler
@HSkyler 5 жыл бұрын
@@GrandAdventure Thanks! Sometimes it doesn't take more than a few days of pred and Benadryl because that's all the vet will be able to do if you can't get your dog in within so many hours to use the antivenom, which is pretty scarce. I think it's something like four hours which isn't enough time if you're camping way out. Pred will also make the dog drink a lot of water which is essential.

HSkyler we are buying our dog a set of “boots” for hiking. But if he decides he’s too cool to wear them, we’ve got tweezers. The pantyhose are a great idea!

Do you feel comfortable leaving your rig in a spot like this to take short day trips?
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, Blake -- and thanks for subscribing! Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been out skiing today. I'll cable lock the expensive stuff that's easy to walk away, like the solar panels, the satellite dish and especially the generator, although that's probably not even necessary and I can't honestly say that I do that each and every time. I don't worry about anything else besides those 3 items. I've never had anything disappear, and even if I did that's what insurance is for anyway.
