I’ve been looking at videos on this subject and this is by far the clearest, most relaxed, and well organized. Greatly appreciated from Australia!

Surprising lesson here, many boats neglect the lighting, Don't and learn this over and over again, nite passages can be extra dangerous. Like this one!

Thank you - In 12 minutes Complete Revision However Rule 27 - Not under Command Vessels 0755 - 0814 . Mast head Lights are Not Displayed by these Vessels as per International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea

Thank you for the clarification sir! I looked it up and I see that it does say sidelights and stern lights for vessels making way but no masthead light.

Rule 26 Fishing Vessels: Do not require a mast head light unless the vessel is over 50 meters (it is an option). Small detail but you should stay in line with the COLGES and not deviate for convenience.

Rule 27 Pilot Vessels: No Mast Head light or lights per COLREGS. Only Off-Duty but that falls under Rule 23.

Thanks for clarifying
@terryhayward44022 жыл бұрын
A fishing vessel engaged in fishing does not show her forward masthead light in addition. regardless if it's trawling or fishing other than trawling. only her after masthead light to show she is greater than 50 meters in length. but a great presentation otherwise. A fishing vessel engaged in fishing that is less than 50 meters may display an after masthead light, but is not obligated to do so.

Thanks for the clarification.

Awesome review thank you, I loved the way you showed the lights alone, and then revealed the vessel showing them. Some clarification about the sailboat at 4:57... My masthead light is a “tri-light” (15m sailboat), so I believe I have to show EITHER the masthead light, OR the deck lights while sailing, but NOT both. I believe the only time both can be on is if the vessel has a “stacked” masthead light (“red over green, sailing machine...”) as is shown in your video. Am I correct?
@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine4 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct. Mast head tri can’t be used with regular side lights and stern light. Red over green (technically not a masthead tri-light) can be used with sidelights
@aquavitasailing28554 жыл бұрын
Carpe Diem Sailing the other one I remember is “red (or green) over white,... fishing at night.”...
@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine4 жыл бұрын
Yup. “Red over white, fishboat in sight”

Question. I saw this in a movie. If the channel lights on your charts aren't exactly the same as the actual lights in the sea, is that suspicious, even if it's a slight difference? In the movie, it caused a shipwreck on coral reefs.
@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine3 ай бұрын
Channel lights should match actual lights. Sometimes things are changed and that is why all mariners are responsible for keeping their charts, whether paper or electronic up to date.
@johnrainsman66503 ай бұрын
@@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine In the movie (1920s 0r 30s) the owner said, "Charts are never up to date in this part of the pacific."
@johnrainsman66503 ай бұрын
@@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine And actually, the villain of the movie shifted them. He even told the hero that the lights do not always mark the safe channel. So on occasion they do? How so?
@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine3 ай бұрын
@@johnrainsman6650 The lights and buoys are meant to be aids to navigation not channel markers as most people mistakenly believe which leads to many incidents. Nav aids are meant to be used in conjunction with charts. A chart is the only definitive method for determining safe water.
@johnrainsman66503 ай бұрын
@@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine They were defintiely light buoys in the movie. If you want to see the first five mins for a reference, KZbin the most dangerous game. Beginning talks about the lights and shows the wreck

nice video and it'd be educational is you put some pazaz into your voice, etc. it's so hard to follow the mundane verbage with minimal voice deflection sir. I didn't type this to complain, but rather so you can improve, if you haven't yet, over the past few years. you seem quite knowledgeable. I have now replayed this several times. . disclosure, i am high energy and it takes a real good speaker to hold my attention. thank you for the video .

Doesn't Rule 30 Cad Mods g and h refer to lights, and applies only to barges and inconspicuous or submerged vessels?
