Thanks for all your work! I'm a french player of OPR and I discover you're work a few days ago. Very interesting stuff here!

Love the list breakdowns. For people that rarely have time to play and have to make every opportunity count (like me), it's great to hear how other lists are doing so I can figure out what is and what is not working on the tabletop in some of my favorite factions. Got to live vicariously through people who get to actually roll dice lol

I know the feeling! I don't get a chance to place as much as I'd like, but that's what TTS is for :)

My only hope is with the competive scene doesn't result in nerfs for armies, but instead improving other armies who have weaknesses. So many armies have weak casters and or spell lists that do nothing for the army. I'm currently playing a campaign with fantasy Orcs. Because it's based off GW I have units based off old world and AOS. My 3 top heroes have very little choice in upgrade while my 2 lower get twice as many upgrades. All 3 wyvern mounts are different, weak spell list and forced on a weak caster. This is where the army builder comes in or you bolster your weaknesses with allies.

I completely agree! That's what I'm trying to do along with others with my custom armies.

Cant help but notice that Dave's list has a Great sister without heavy shield attached to a unit of custodian brothers with heavy shields. This would make heavy shield useless!

Oh good catch! You are right they shouldn't have gotten that. :)

I greatly dislike combined allied armies which cover one’s weaknesses. I’m prefer pure lists but this is competitive comp so do want you want . Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth

I'm with you on that, I think combined armies lead to homogenised forces and blurs the line between what needs balancing and what doesn't.

I think in Dave's case, his allies made the army weaker. Luckily there wasn't any really gamy allies in the tournament. I think they should remove allies from competitive play

I remember Warhammer 8th edition. It was Imperial soup at the top or it was Chaos soup and occasionally Elf soup. The fact that some factions got the ability to cherry pick the best units from a bunch of armies while others only got to play with their own rules was horrible. Luckily OPR is safe from that. Unluckily, it's because everyone can play everything soup. Obviously tournament rules can limit the number of allies and they pretty much have to because otherwise why wouldn't you just take the best of everything? There are no benefits to taking pure list after all. I will emphasize, this is not criticism about the allied list. In a tournament, as a competitive player, you take what wins (granted apparently this wasn't the case here but it was the intention) It's up to the tournament organizers and game designers to ether make a reason to not use allies or just ban them. As long as they're legal, the hives+custodian list is how you should be building competetive armies

@@NeoHellPoet I completely agree that people should bring what is allowed in a tournament. My opinion on allies is that they don’t encourage variety. Do we really want to see an allied hive lord in every army list?
