In my case, I came to the “community” late. I big-chopped & went natural with a wonderful natural hair stylist (happened to live in the DC area, so I had lots of choices). I loved watching videos, although didn’t use 2/3 of the content because I had excellent coaching on what worked for my hair, and I’m wash & go only. That taught me that not everything is for everyone, and I think that’s part of what went wrong somewhere. Many seem to be looking for ONE answer, when our hair & scalps are all different. And I don’t assume that any one person is a greater expert on my hair than I am. My stylist is great & she got me started. But while she’s done a ton of different heads, no one has done MY hair more than me, lol. Products don’t matter so much, cause I know how to do it, with just about any hair care line. Even so, I still enjoy watching some videos, but I know what to take and what to leave.

The kitchen portion could be Alove4cuisine. I really loved this video. You inspired me to cook for Valentine’s Day so I’ll give her recipe a try! In terms of the natural hair community, you are absolutely right. People don’t want to take the time to learn their hair and want a quick and simple fix. Natural hair maintenance can be simplified but since people have already given up on their hair and the learning process given the confusion and mixed messaging on hair care they have to sift through, they aren’t even open to educational videos. They are exhausted and just want a quick ok tell me what to do solution and sadly it’s out there but unsure if they will find it. Green beauty is great with educational videos and don’t think she gets enough credit!

You took me waaaaay back! I remember when Elle was Denim Pixie. I first heard of LOC from Black Onyx before she created Alikay. And I read the Science of Black Hair from cover to cover back in the day and I read Curly Nikki's blog religiously. 🤗

You are definitely a natural-hair historian. I like how you show the versatility of your hair by rotating styles such as twist out, straight, etc This is why I don’t understand why ppl who have been natural for years return to relaxing. There was a time when relaxers offered the most versatility in regard to styling, IMHO that is no longer the case. There’s so many products, style options etc available to naturals. It’s freedom.

I agree with you. We all want things easy. Easy hair routine is the thing I have followed your cleanse, condition and coat for a long time. That is as simple as it gets. Can it get any easier? But I’d like to pose a question though. Is caring for your body( which your hair is part of your body) so hard and so tiring that people are willing to do anything that might ruin a part of yourself (your hair). I get tired of taking my vitamins, I get tired of dealing with my nails and skin care and the dentist but not tired enough that I quickly go for the latest trends or do something that harmful to any other part of my body. Our hair is a part of us let’s not treat it like it’s a step child.

You preached a whole sermon about the natural community. I even felt really convicted and had to remember that it wasn't until I started using the LOC/LCO principles that I had the first breakthrough with my hair before I moved onto wash and goes - so "no oils, no butters" never made sense for me. Thank you for shouting out the natural hair innovators! I wish I could dig up my old Fotki. I forgot it existed!

That's one of the things I resonate with... A proud tea drinker 🎉. I honestly don't get the obsession with coffee, but I also don't judge it 😊. My favorite teas are ginger, soursop leaf (at night) and lemongrass.

@@ALove4Me I don't know if it's available for sale actually, I have a tree in my yard (remember I live in Jamaica), it also bears a fruit (not a fan 😩). But the tea from the leaves are proven to be an even better calming nerve tonic than Chamomile. Maybe check a Caribbean grocery store.

8:33 I never thought that who you want to be for yourself and who you want to be for your community were different. I always thought that who you wanted to be in your community was what you desired for yourself, but as I grow, I’m being to realize that’s not all true. 58:07 Thank you so much for the shoutout! It was so surprising for me. You have fulfilled my childhood dream😂❤

The capitalism extends to some licensed stylists. What some of these folks are doing is a straight grift. NOTHING annoys me more than these licensed “grifters” trying to shove their European hair knowledge down our throats when they didn’t learn *ish about our hair in school. Cyndoll has a video with a thumbnail that reads “why I hate WNGs and twist outs. If they hate “KZbin University” so much, they should take their asses to their licensed salons and get the heck off YT-especially out of the natural hair space.

Not sure if you were aware of all the shady practices that Better Help has been involved in but was surprised to see the sponsorship from you. They’ve done a lot from selling users data illegally, over charging patients and even having under qualified therapists on the platform.. but all that to say I hope you don’t work with them again if you can avoid it.

Typically I unsubscribe when I see a content creator sponsored by BH but I love this channel so I haven't. A simple search of BH + controversy would show all the lawsuits they engaged in since 2013.
