AHOY! Today we haul SeaSHINE, our 56-foot motor yacht/floating home, out of the water to finally get her broken bow thruster fixed. The crew visits the beautiful Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center while Captain Mark oversees the thruster repair and hull cleaning. Then we travel up the Chesapeake Bay to Herrington Harbor North on what is our 19th leg of our Great American Loop Adventure. Our main salon air conditioning stopped working due to an airlock in the lines which occurred as a result of the haul out. You learn something new every day.

So glad you experienced smoother waters on the Chesapeake. That was a night and day difference. Those little annoying bugs…I do so hate them, but it would be far worse if they were mosquitoes!!! Mosquitoes and I don’t get along very well. Life has been a little busy and I got a bit behind in watching your journey. It’s always a pleasure to watch you guys. I’m off to watch the next episode and try to get caught up.

Half a century ago you’d have seen a little bright pink cottage right on the beach not far south of the Cove Point light. That was my grandparents’ summer house and every summer of my youth was spent watching that light sweep the bay each evening. The cottage is still there although my family no longer owns it and it’s no longer pink, but it was nice to see some familiar sights and hear some familiar names. Thank you.

We just love chatting with the loopers who stay with us at SCM. Washburn's is a pretty great boatyard with a pretty awesome staff. Linda is the best! Be safe out there!

So glad the Chessie Bay is treating you good. Herrington harbor is a wonderful stop. I'm already anxious to see your visit to Annapolis. I call it the "boat circus" you see things there that you never see any place else. One guy had his dog trained to jump off the bow pulpit and swim around to the AFT ladder which had a little ramp for the dog to climb up. He trained it to jump in, go around, climb back up. He had the dog do it three times and then commanded him to stop which he did instantly. I seen wedding receptions pulling in to ego Alley. A sailor head down Ego Alley with the wind then turn around add tack back and forth in between all the boats driving up and down the alley. He was a sailing wizard.

We've been at Herrington Harbour North for 8 years with our 40 ft sailboat. Yeah, Shiver Me Timbers is great! Did you know that there's a small historic village at the marina entrance? HHN was won environmental awards for their habitats and overall design - and everyone at the marina is top notch.

@@TheBoomershines The hot tub policy is because of insurance. Bummer. But HHN is a true resort. There's a Herrington Harbour South at the bottom of Herring Bay that has a gas dock and an on-the-beach "motel" South is the beach front room and gas, North - as you found - is to get work done. HHN/S is a family business - great people - always available to chat with slip-holders. Enjoy your loop!

After going through the hassle of getting a bow thruster fixed. Do y’all regret going through the Dismal Swamp, even with its beauty? It was crazy how y’all left the swamp and bam Navy ships. Then y’all had some rough seas in the Chesapeake Bay. Capt Andy looked to fair the best. I was glad to see once the boat got hauled out the bow thruster fix was quick and easy. After working on cars for 25yrs. The right tools make repairs so much easier. How are kids enjoying the trip so far?

I have always been a powerboat guy but now I'm ready to try something new. I still pine for the loop you guys make it seem so fun. I checked out Mark's paintings on his website, they are amazing. Thank you for watching and for such a kind comment!!! People have done the loop in sailboats but we wouldn't recommend it unless that is your only option. The challenge with sailboats on the loop is that you have to take the mast down for a good portion of the loop so you don't really get to take advantage of that beautiful sail power. We only saw one sailboat looper when we did the loop and he was struggling with how slow he had to travel with his small engine. If that is your only option, then go for it! But you might enjoy the loop more on a powerboat. That is just our opinion having done the loop in a powerboat. I'd love to hear any sailboat loopers chime in with their thoughts. I may be all wrong.

Ah yes I remember our 1st hull out in HI. We had to pull the transmission off the motor to replace the shaft seal that was causing the transmission fluid to leak out. We were on our knees in a space about 4 foot high. We had to pull the shaft out of the packing gland so we could pull the transmission back off the motor. We rigged a pully system to hold the weight of the transmission down in the engine compartment. Yes nothing like topping off your fuel tanks at $5.80 a gallon to bring out the true meaning of BOAT. Bring out another thousand.

Marina to Marina, are there just no anchorage places along your route? Or is that just what you guys prefer? Enjoying the adventures (the bugs may of just stopped our trip my wife freaked out) 😂
@TheBoomershines
@TheBoomershines Ай бұрын
@@RLoose9494 Good question. Generally you can anchor anywhere out of a channel. Many do that when trying to save money. For us it was all about seeing the town where we arrived and the people. Anchoring is beautiful but also a bit lonely and definitely has its challenges. For SeaSHINE being 56 feet, which is on the larger side in most Loop waterways it’s physically impossible to have enough room to anchor. If in 10 feet of water with a 7:1 anchor scope that means we need 126 foot radius or 250 feet in diameter of spin. Some waterways aren’t even that wide. Hope that helps! Capt. Mark ⚓️

Great question! In boating, sometimes you can't take the direct route because of unseen things & shallow water. We took the long loop because that was the marked channel and way into the harbor and to our slip. Had we gone straight to our t-head we would have run aground.

They did! I wonder what they were thinking the whole time LOL. But it might have spooked them because they figured out how to jump out a port hole while we were at Herrington Harbor. After we docked and were talking to the dockhands, someone said "whose cat is that?" I looked over to see JoJo walking around the dock. We didn't capture it on video but it was highly amusing.
