We are so close to finishing the shell of the boatbuild. Odisea Catamarans have been helping the project by keeping my costs as low as possible but we need a final push to get us over the line...not the finishing ling but the start line to the Elcano World Challenge. Give it a thumbs up if you liked this episode!

Does anyone remember Peter gave his boat away and had other boats donated to others who had dreams of sailing? Most people need to go back and see the generosity in every area over the years. (Newbies here on the outside looking in. )

G'day Pete, i once heard (living in Portland, Victoria, where there is a big Alcoa smelter) that aluminium is electricity in solid form. To run the smelter, the government installed a 500KV transmission line from the Latrobe Valley all the way to Portland. Thats about 500Km. At the time (and maybe even still) it was the only 500KV transmission line in Australia (and maybe even the world?). Sure made the place hum when the humidity was high. It occurred to me watching all the welding of those big shell plates today that your entire boat will basically be solidified electricity! Should make zapping around the world easy-peasy! 🙂 Take care of yourself mate. This is a massive task you are undertaking, and I can only imagine the stress and sustained effort you are subjected too - that we who watch at home in our lounge rooms cant possibly imagine. You are doing great things and are appreciated.

The kindness and respect Plucky showed to the Guna people of the San Blass islands is laudable. I remember a man in a canoe whos snorkel mask was held on with a kalvin klein underpants waistband which had lost its elasticity. He got a new mask for his troubles and plucky remarked that the man would probably just take the rubber off the new mask and continue to use the old one. Behind the Bluster and online youtube channel persona there lies a deeply honorable decent uber intelligent proper human being in the best sense of the word. I think that anyone who ever crewed with him would attest to the fact that hes actually and how do i say it without hurting his feelings.... a gentleman. Sorry plucky but it needed to be said.

Knowing how hulls are stressed in high wave conditions, would a "suspension test" of the hull help? Removing one or more strategic supports while still suspended would reveal any hull weaknesses before it's launched.

Designers not taking into account the material they're designing in. Why make it so difficult, design the boat with the materials in mind. With sheet ali I'd be designing in more straight lines, this curving of plate is laborious time consuming and in my opinion difficult costly

@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM I actually met him once, in 2020 at the Boot Show Düsseldorf on the Garcia stand while Johan from Ran-Sailing was visiting the Exploration 45 they showed there. Another good promoter for your project could be Skip Novak. The concern to open the age of real sustainable yachting is a relevant concern. In super yachting it will come anyway with nuclear and hydrogen propulsion, although of course you have to ask yourself what is so particularly sustainable about 120m long luxury yachts with eight guest cabins and twelve crew berths.

@@melinda5777 In 1 hour and 15 minutes or faster, I can be sitting at New Orleans Jazz Fest Gate waiting for them to open up. I missed this year because I had to shell out $3600 on a garage door and opener. I forgot they were shutting down all the other stages when The Rolling Stones played because they didn’t even do that for Aerosmith which was a killer show. Due to the early sellout and cost of tickets, some people even came from out of town and stood in the streets plus some sat in chairs all around outside the Fairgrounds area neighborhood. My Mother was music director at 4 churches so music was always in the home and I grew up playing guitar, some keyboards, bass, small amount on drums (due to neighbors) and blues harp. As a teenager I lived 4 hours away in a boring small one horse town, all we had to do for entertainment was ride the roads. My Dad checked my mileage and said I must be going out of town, so that set off an alarm. I started working at 6 years old every summer and had money saved. I was brought up around farming early, and at 13 most summers working at a new car dealership. I learned to how to detail and do tuneups, plus disconnect the speedometer cable off the transmission so it would record my mileage. Shame on me but I would say I am going camping in the woods with some friends and we would drive to New Orleans on about $6.00 worth of gas in my VW Bug. Jazz Fest was held in the park then and it was free. Things were so cool then, still had to be careful but we would party till about daylight and then park on the Mississippi River levy to sleep. Way to dangerous now plus they built a casino right where we slept. I was so blessed to get to meet and play music with some older artists and bands. Those were some of the best days of my life starting at 15 years old. I still have an amp I got by trading in a pair of 12 inch Celestion speakers that my friend Leon Medica from Louisiana Leroux sold me. They spent all their money in making their first album and needed the cash to start touring. Overnight the album was a hit. Leon was the nicest bass player I have ever met and a first cousin to my friend. Later in life I delivered his relatives mail while he was touring and living in Nashville. I was in a bad wreck knocked over 1/10 of a mile from impact and can’t play out anymore. The injuries gave me a light stoke and I had to learn guitar all over again. Due to injuries I can’t play the harmonica like I used to, it’s like it is hard to breathe blowing the harp. I hate that because I still have every key of harps, a green bullet harp mic and tons of blues music. I am friends with Muddy’s son but I haven’t seen him in around 10 years. Little Walter grew up in my old town and I have met his daughter on numerous occasions, she is sweet. As a little kid my Dad would take us by train in Illinois to Chicago to watch the Cubs, sometimes my sister’s Browny and Girl Scout troop would go and visit the Science And Industry Building and we would walk by some ole Chicago Blues Clubs. At 5 years old I saw my first stabbing there, two drunk guys fighting over a women, one pulling her arm one way and the other the opposite way. Then all the sudden bam, one guy pulls out a switchblade knife and stabbed him right there. We were across the street and I pointed and hollered look, those little girl scouts screamed so loud I think it scared the whole town and we took off running for the subway headed for the train station. Sorry for the long story but it sure was some interesting times.

That's why the end up spending so much time filling with fairing compound on GRP hulls and even some steel hulls I've seen being built. Dutch Germans and Japanese tend to shape the metal by rolling or by heat bending larger plates. Interestingly Pete there's a couple having a Windelo Basalt hulled boat built and because they get clean hulls from their moulds they can build their hulls in under Two weeks ..I actually think they said just over a week. It's the cleanest most finished hulls I've seen coming straight out of the moulds for main assembly and then fitting out.
