EP 34 - Thomas Bland on the Geese

A freezing cold morning 1 mile off the coast but our hopes were high. We both limited on geese and managed to get some excellent Shotkam footage for this one. The geese absolutely piled over and we picked our shots to make the morning last a while, plus we also wanted to get under some Whitefronts, which unusually turned up in big numbers for the second year running. We had some bonus Golden Plover; a great sporting and eating bird. I also took the old man's Thomas Bland out for a run using ITX and Bissy.

Thanks Jason. Choke all the way down the barrel makes for a tight pattern and although it is an old magnum I now only put 2 & 3/4 inch shells through it, which as you can see do a nice job. Trouble is I’m running out of my Dads stash and probably will only be able to get Bismuth for it. Probably two more seasons before I run out though.

Those gamebore 36g 3's convincingly brought those geese down at a good range.

Yes, my favourite Steel load. Did use to buy 1s, and they’re good too but the threes pattern really well through a kicks hi flyer modified choke.

Yes it completely sucks. We were so lucky to get so many Whitefronts in this season and then it’s cut short. Was hoping to nick a few more of them and some Pintail up the coast but all my clubs have closed up. Role on next season.

Good shooting, selected your geese and shot accurately, I have a Thomas Bland wildfowler 12ga 30" F&F 3" 1 1/2oz, Churchill rib, deadly pattern with No.2 for geese/ mountain duck and BB for fox. What model is your Bland?.

What cartridges you find are best through your thkmqs bland for the geese?

Tungsten Matrix by Kent in a 1 or 3 shot, 36gm load - not made anymore so I have a few left and will then have to use Bismuth. It will take magnums but we were advised by a gun smith not to put magnum loads through it anymore.
