I can say you have made me a better sailor for that, your sharing, my gratitude is yours. Watching this vid for the second time a thought, of many occurred. It would be great if perhaps i haven't come across it you made a video of just you doing your thing. Little talk just gliding through a favourite passage you doing your thing in beautiful BC wilderness. Would be a great tonic for us Northern Ontarians this time of year. Cheers.

Mr. Coda, my husband introduced me to your channel a few years back when we first started getting serious about the boat life and I have learned a great deal from watching your videos, revisiting the ones about knots quite often as I continue to practice. I have come to view you with the respectful awe of a student to an experienced mentor or teacher, but holy cow 🐄 watching you sail off of the dock like that...like butter on a hot pancake, the amount of respect I have for you has quadrupled! You are the man!!

Hello Marco, I am back from travels in Italy and am really happy to see this clip. You certainly made a huge change in your life. It deserves respect. Also am eagerly looking forward to your upcoming clips. Single handedly sailing is what I will probably be doing mostly, so learning from your experience and your great level of detail is music to my ears. The quick previews were great and seeing how you tackle each activity and how you plan on the go is brilliant. So looking forward to your upcoming vids.

Thanks Paolo. Welcome back. I just got back from 3 days of wonderful sailing in my new cruising area and did some more single handing video. I too am looking forward to getting the videos out.

I’ve been binge watching your videos and have been loving them. I was actually going to look you up for lessons when I move eventually to B.C. I am a paramedic in N.B. and have been wanting to move to B.C. since I was a kid. I also have always been interested in sailing. What a surprise to learn you are also a medic. I suppose I could use your advice on sailing and getting on with BCAS! Stay safe and fair winds!

I am really looking forward to your single handing videos. I expect most of my sailing will be solo once I finally get on the water. One short video I would appreciate seeing is on flag etiquette. I am finding it a confusing topic. Once again a great video and I appreciate all the work you put in to help us learn how to be safe on the water.

Thank you Matthew, I really like your suggestion and will definitely do a video on flag etiquette. Single handed videos should be coming out in the next few weeks. Keep those great suggestions coming.

Welcome to Campbell. I just moved here from Comox for work and it's a nice little town. I'm also here for the recreational options. I camp a lot in an old VW bus but a sailboat is next on the list. Hope to see you around. :)

Obviously you tried dislodging that mess with reverse thrusts ya? Very effective at clearing props. Good job on the relocation, Vancouver stinks now... the whole lower mainland's lost its culture and takes forever to get anywhere. I also migrated (back) here, but to the CVRD. Perhaps look at getting closer to better moorages and sailing up your way. I've appreciated all your videos, thank you. I have a little O'Day 222 and looking to upgrade... I'd be interested if and when you do
@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine Жыл бұрын
Yes I did try reversing but did not work. I am now living in Courtenay but keeping the boat in Campbell River. Where do you keep your 222?
@brianne92 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the move! Quick beginner question here. At the ~14:40 mark, you lowered the main to sail with just the genoa to reduce speed. Why did you choose to sail with the genoa as opposed to just the main? My understanding is that using just the main instead would reduce lee helm and give better visibility as compared to using just a foresail but I assume there are many other factors to consider.
@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine2 жыл бұрын
Thanks BK D. Good question. At the time I was sailing downwind in a congested area ie. a narrow gorge. You cannot slow down downwind with a mainsail and lee helm is not an issue downwind. With a head sail you can ease the sheet to luff and let the wind out of the sail, or better yet with a furling system you can furl part way reducing sail area and boat speed. With a mainsail because of the boom you cannot luff downwind. The only way to slow down is to turn around and head up wind. Hope this answers your question.
@brianne92 жыл бұрын
@@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine Thank you for the clarification! This makes sense. I hadn't run into this scenario yet.

Hi! Living up in Canada do you stay up here to work during winter or do you go away for the winter ? Me and the lady have started learning sailing and want to buy a boat next year, in Quebec, in feels a bit sad to limit the sailing period that much if we stay in Quebec
@CarpeDiemSailingMagazine Жыл бұрын
We stay year round. The weather on the west coast is very mild. I used to live in Ontario and could not justify the short sailing season. Here on the west coast you can sail year round. I have even sailed in snow storms but mostly the winters are rainy. Having said that with the right gear winter sailing out here can be quite enjoyable. We do occasionally go south and charter.
