Felt v sad for Douglas but he has such a wonderful grace and spirit about him. No doubts that he will be successful in life. Hope also that OCS can give him a chance but sometimes life is unfair and we learn to take these stumbling blocks and turn them into stepping stones to reach greater heights.

I really feel sad for him. Good luck Douglas! You will always be a leader, with or without the rank.

Douglas, you are not alone. There are many of us who had worn the white stripes with pride, sang the same songs in the school, ran the same SOC ground countless times and looked forward to the days we serve our nation as officers and who eventually had our dreams smashed because of medical reasons. I was one of them and though i shed tears, and though this is the greatest regret of my life, I believe we must stay strong and we are still leaders, because we were the chosen and forever will be.

Would you rather the MO take a risk, not diagnose him with whatever he thought Douglas had, and let there a possible fatality (touch wood)? Better safe than sorry. If you had a son, would you rather let him go through this and OOC or risk him passing on? If he passed on, would you unleash your fury upon the MOs for not diagnosing his condition earlier? If you'd rather he OOC than die, don't complain. If you'd rather he die than OOC... then I have nothing to say.

Maybe this episode isn't important to the continuity of the series, but I'm glad that it was included. Douglas isn't going to be the last one to drop out, and this episode is a reminder to future OCS cadets: If they take care of themselves, they can surely be an asset to the SAF in some other way. Dropping out isn't the end of the world. Douglas still has a place to call his own in the Singapore Armed Forces - a role that he can perform in to the best of his physical and psychological ability.

He should be thankful actually because he doesn't need to attend ICT till 50 years old... I ever knew a close friend of mine who got OOC on the last day of the course...after going through the whole damn Armour OCT course which is the most lengthy course among the support arms...

I've a friend who OOCed and recourse after he recovered and got certified fit. But not every one can do that. The course is 9 mths long and NS is 2 years. If not certified fit in time, no choice... too late to recourse. Officers must also have min 6 mths service after commissioning.

They're also forgetting what Shawn said in Episode 6 of Season 1 of Every Singaporean Son - "If something happens to you, you have to be responsible. You have to take care of yourself." The documentary is meant to educate, not to emotionally affect the public, although the fact that it does shows the respect that our National Servicemen get. But still, there must be a limit to how much we allow our emotions to affect our perception of the information of the vast world around us. People must know

"OCS' are three big words, but our Army officers need to respect their subordinate soldier as every soldier are a leader, not one man show , their training no doubt are extremely tough, but need to highlight and educate all OCT how to be a great superiors, what are the leadership they should learn and apply to future work together with all ranks with considerate, respect and positive leadership ability, not a big boss to be served.
@ahhhhhDE
@ahhhhhDE 12 жыл бұрын
Is that a supported claim? Besides, it was already mentioned in the video that the MO suspected something was wrong with his heart so he was sent to the hospital for a further check up. So the problem doesn't lie with the MO after all, isn't it? Then also, efficiency is not tied into making right decisions. It was purely a misfortune for Douglas, and I myself find it logically sound for OCC because after all, his life was at stake.

That's because BMT is something common to every single NSman, more aptly said as "Every Singaporean Son" regardless of race, language, religion or skills. OCS however, is not actually common to each and every soldier. It's about the best soldiers from BMT going for more training. ESS 1 had soldiers who actually started out as civilians, with problems. ESS 2 is about elite cadets. Don't get me wrong, I respect these guys for their talent, but not everyone is elite. That's the missing connection.

It's sad but seriously, if u were his parent, you would rather the docs play safe. Where medical stuff is concerned, nothing is ever 100%. Anyway, he OOC-ed cos he skipped quite a bit of trg by the time the results came out. If he went for 2nd opinion, nothing would have changed. The pte docs would still send him for more tests. @Ernest Tan @eSScODRiNgfy
