In Pursuit of Madness, episode 4 talks about a topic close to my heart. People of my generation often speak about this topic, which the older generation doesn't understand.
While mental health is a big stigma, speaking up to create awareness is the only way to break the social stigma attached to it. So I am quite open about my mental health, hoping it might help someone too.
This segment shares my recent conversation related to mental health with one of my close friends. Watch the full video to know more.

Thank you for sharing this. I had an experience where a person threatened me that he would tell everyone I was taking psychiatric medication. People who don't know about depression, stress or anxiety will understand it differently. It made me have horrible feelings. It isn't easy.

Olden days the awareness was less and stigma was even more than now. The awareness about mental health issues and treatment is much more now and the current generation us willing to take that help. Anyways a good topic ❤ You are doing well and keep going!

Last year, we had this discussion at our home. My father mentioned like that person, as if this has been a new topic since the new generation. My mother, who usually doesn't share strong opinions, immediately came forward and said "that is not true and people needed help even in the past but there wasn't much help other than the advice to ignore those feelings/sorrow". I believe that the major issues of our current generation are that we are not able to trust people around us and sometimes can't accept when things don't go as we wish it would have. We all have some inner insecurities, weirdness and thought processes. We end up feeling that we might lose our worth if those uniqueness become public. All we need is a friend who listens to us, guides us but not think too much about us. I want to stress the last point: not think too much about us. Because if that person ends up thinking too much about us, that can affect both friends adversely. We just want to reduce the adversities and pain. When I listened to this video, the first thing that came to my mind was the snail-mail thing that my friend does with her selected friends across the globe. I assume(may be wrong), most of those mails are just friendly self-boosting life journals. However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to share our thoughts with some friends/acquaintance(whom we may never meet in life) wait for the replies. I have noticed that this is something many people across the world have been doing for many years and still continue to do. Even though with technology we want fast responses, it would nice to slow our lives down a bit. It might give us a sense of hope and new perspective. I hope, we all find good people who can help one another. PS: Go with your gut while speaking about such topics. When someone speaks about such topics in pre-planned manner, it doesn't feel personal and emotional which are necessary to make the listener peaceful. I hope, the non-pre-planned talk gives you peace as well🙏

Really sensible & matured way of reaching out to all of us in the same boat one or other way. Thank you so much Archana dear. I am totally agreeing with you. Mental health needs to be normalised like a fever or other physical bodily issues

I lost my father to depression... I wish we had this conversation in our family so we would've been on the same page when time came to take care of him. Mental health issues have been present since the beginning of time but we , our generation, talks about it openly verse the past generation because we want to get help and live our life where as past generation was all about hushing it, naathu kaar enthe chindikum... This is what we don't want to do.

Hey archana this topic made a lot of sense to me,.i have witnessed and undergone the trauma of alcoholism in the family, even now the stigma around taking a psychiatric consultation is huge, esp among older generation,. N the way we were brought up is also not helping, slowly trying to unlearn. So these videos really help people like me,. Keep going,.

We won’t blame if we end up getting a partner who knows to listen and learn to ignore (and sometimes correct) our over-thinking thoughts. But surely, it is not easy to trust a stranger/acquaintance and be the partner we desire. I am not saying that I am against your feeling/thought. I just recently took a leap of faith and I hope, my wife or I don’t complain about it later in our lives😅🤞😊

Pandum ondaarunnu. But joint family systems could overcome non functioning members as others took over them. And there wasnt proper knowledge to get treatment. Instead took to churches or retreat centres as mentioned here n finally those were marked as their persinality. Nobody other than the sufferers knew their pain n helplessness.. At those time, people didnt matter, only work done by any mattered. Ellarum parayunna vere oru kaariyama, pand ethra prasavichatha, ann epozhathepole preshnangalonnum pregnancyk illarunnuallo enn.. Ann ithilum mayernal deatgs ondaarunnu n problems too. But othiri oerollathukond moothavar kariangal etteduthum koott kydumba reethikaaranaum aarkum ath affected aakaathe maranj ponnondirunnenneyullu.. ipo maternal deatgs okke ethratholam kotanjenn aarum chinthikkilla.. Same with mental health issues too.. Another sad thing is psychology therapy is made a little bit out off costly by many psychologists. Not psychiatrists.. and to get a good psychiatrist is a very tough thing too…

Don't you think it's also because we were raised differently? Our parents were grown with so many siblings and a more hardship wile growing up when compared to us..... Our mothers were told that you gotta work from morning to night for your family without asking for help. Or that's what they also saw in society and thought that was right. They had the health too so they never probably complained. for example They walked to school or work more than us. When it came to Our generation we didn't have to coz everything was developed.. School buses were available or close by schools came by. So not our mistake our parents gave us all this... Parents got more time to spend with children and most of our gen parents valued their children more so we got more freedom and love! Hence I feel that we can't accept if it's an unfair marraige hence more divorces we don't care what society thinks so we express our feelings and thoughts better and also our health and mental conditions are more prominent . Our lifestyle and foods also play a lot of role we fall I'll more or underlying conditions are much more worse than them!

Every generation has its own set of problems. Like our grandparents had different kind of problems than our parents... Its different... Even in our case the competition/stress kids face in school nowadays are completely different from how it was when I went to school. I think we should stop with I walked 10 kms to go to school story. Just my opinion.

@@ArchanaKaviCreator yea exactly 😅 coz that was theirs and ours needn't be the same... But yes I think judging is something that needs to be removed from within our society.. Most probably achieved in the next generation coz then no one has the time for all that😛 Your the sweetest please do put your thoughts out we can all feel someone shares our viewpoints too! ❤
