Peter -- you and I are about the same age ... but watching you work reminds me of helping my father (he with the industrial arts degree) build furniture, move walls, install fixtures, and all the other things that are stock-in-trade for a tradesman and mysteries to the rest of us. I'm still working through my own personal fears of the table saw (I inherited my dad's Shopsmith, and have made use of it on several occasions) and I'm nowhere close to building anything beautiful, but I really enjoy watching you doing to the things my dad used to do. Still trying to understand all the machinations, but really enjoying the journey. Thanks for taking us all along with you.

Hello Peter from your FatTug delivery service. I like your anchor barrel plan. Did you think of a pipe in the middle with a cone on top to spool the chain around? Next, please wear a mask when working with mahogany type woods, those are very bad for your lungs. Keep up the interesting and exciting videos. Keep views posted on your haul out plan for Granville Island, someone may visit…..
@TravelsWithGeordie21 күн бұрын
Jon! How are you? Great idea on the chain guide. I am hoping that simply using a tall slender container will limit troublesome castling. I'll certainly keep everyone up to date on haul out timing. That would be fun!

Peter I haven't forgotten about that very rare round bronze forehatch that you managed to get. It must have been at least 2 years ago. When are you going to install that? I doubt anyone remembers the hatch, I asked you in a live stream and you said next year but I'm thinking which next year 😂

@RobertSchmitt-u7l22 күн бұрын
I would be using 1mm steel saw blades (im using a 1.6 now), they come in 250/300mm and all you need is a precise bushing adapter, can just be made on any sort of lathe. They are not very flimsy as they are supposed to stay precise even when cutting steel, at low speed. Buzzes through wood just the same. With hard oak its the only thing you can use on various table saws. No need for the 5hp monsters when using a proper narrow kerf blade. The Wood savings and lack of sawdust is a real benefit and the cut quality is still adequate, Its great when going slow also. Saw runs better, carbide is well, its good but I think sharpened high quality steel is better. If you can file a blade, it makes it last a very long time. Easy to do with a sharp file as well...
@TravelsWithGeordie21 күн бұрын
Thanks Robert! That's a very compelling idea. Narrow Kerf blades make alot of sense. Thanks for your thought!

Not wanting to be critical, but why didn’t you build the door jambs after putting up the veneer skins?
@TravelsWithGeordie21 күн бұрын
That's a great question Ross. You're right, normal building technique would rabbet the door jamb over the veneer. But in my case, I want the veneer to be easily replaceable as I consider it more of a decoration than a built in.
