I have one of these tables that came with my first apartment when I was in college, many years ago, that I was able to take with me and I still cherish it today. It's lovely to watch how the table is constructed, and while you're showing the restoration I'm able to gaze at my table with a newfound appreciation.

The able u restored in this video , my parents used them as end tables. They had 2. We also had that giant round coffee table from the same group. I never knew until watching ur videos how popular this furniture series was. Had no idea it was made by the cedar chest company. It really brings back a lot of memories.

Beautiful work, as always, Barry. My father made much of our furniture in the 1950-70s, so we had few commercial pieces. Lane used to sell miniature "hope chests," and I've inherited a few of them from my grandmother and great-grandmother. These Acclaim tables are the ultimate eye candy, and I can't wait to see more of them in your subsequent videos. Thank you for all the time and TLC that go into your projects!

@tinydancer74262 жыл бұрын
Oh yes. The Lane mini cedar hope chest. It was a tradition that girls received a gift certificate from a local furniture store in there senior year of high school. Mine came from from M Shaivitz & Sons, Inc in Baltimore City. I got mine in 1968 (fall of my senior year) and it is in the same condition as when I received it. It went to college with me, when my son was in his teens I let him use it to keep "stuff" in, then took it back from him when I discovered that the "stuff" he wanted it for was cigarettes (big NOPE there), and I have had it since. Love my little Lane chest. I often wonder how many, if any, of my classmates still have theirs at all. Wow, I just did the math .... my chest is 54 years old. Unfortunately, Lane did not put a manufacturing date on those chests. Rats. It would be fun to know when it was "born".

Perfect timing. I recently bought an Acclaim end table at a thrift store for $22.48 (senior day)! I haven’t refinished furniture for years but am retired now and couldn’t pass this up. Very good condition and the finish appears original, but flaky. Sanding the top might be all it needs but I’m not sure how to finish it since it isn’t part of a pair. I’m sure I’ll find the answer in this series. Love your channel and never miss an episode.

Nice job Barry. I have a set of these as well which I need to get back to restoring. They were painted the god awful turquoise. I agree with one of the previous commenters the difference in contrast between the two woods should be a lot more subtle. But it's a matter of taste if you restoring them. I also like the sharp contrast but the purees will use more muted shade between the two woods so there's not as much contrast. Just a matter of taste at that point. Looking forward to the other restorations on the lane furniture pieces. 👍

I missed where you left the medical field. It’s absolutely NO surprise to me, if you are someone that enjoys people, helping, and genuinely care. You are caught in a nightmarish Hell where you know you will never escape. When you enjoy others and respect, value your mental health. Having to work days with administration is total insanity. It borders on NEVER allowing anyone to know you prefer not dealing with a needless power struggle. Where the desk, chair warming, hateful shift jockeys, demanding shift supervisors, dark overlords, soon catch on. If you are single or don’t have children, you find every holiday belongs to those who do. Thanksgiving being one of the Best holidays ever. Becomes an acute pain leverage. OMG Barry, at the beginning I thought you were getting ready to fix a baby bottle LOL. I love your work no matter what it is.

I have a step table similar to this, however, it is not as nice as this one (I'm not sure of the manufacturer, as I've never turned it over to check). It is yet another piece I acquired from my grandmother.

I need to watch all these videos. I just inherited a set of end tables and a coffee table that definitely need some refinishing. My question is can I use just the restore a finish as a first attempt to clean up the piece? I am scared to totally remove the finish and sand it since it’s made of veneer and I’m new to the refinishing process.
