I like the tinted lacquer ‘factory finish’. I have a ton of Acclaim. All purchased at thrift stores, rummage/garage sales or flea markets. What I’ve collected ranged from very mint-factory-fresh, to spray painted, all the way to structurally damaged, major-repair-train wrecks. Im sort of a vintage furniture purist, and I most appreciate the original designers vision with these kind of pieces. But, to each their own!

You should try After Shokz: Air/ wireless bone conduction headphones. They don't go inside your ear but outside of it right front of them laying on the skin. It keeps your ears open to hear your surroundings like if you're a runner for cars and it's better to not damage your ear drum or cause irritation. It sounds like he is sitting right beside you when watching.

Thank you for this comparison. I have unintentionally collected 5 Acclaim tables and have felt a little paralyzed about how to start. This has been super helpful and, as always, massively educational. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Favorite is probably #2 candlelight, finished. It's surprising that the sides will lighten up that much. This first phase makes them look like there will be zero contrast but your finished example is gorgeous.

I like number 1 and I also like when you use that expensive wax that you brush on that comes in a jar I believe. It's so satisfying to watch when u use it. I'm in love with it. Just watched a very interesting video and would like to recommend it to you. I think you might find it interesting too. Mad Man Restorations restored a Lane Acclaim table and used grain filler. The finish on the end result was absolutely gorgeous! Lots of extra work but that finish seemed worth it. Thanks for all you do for charity and to educate me. This was a great video.

I think it depends on the condition of the piece. Number 4 is easy but won't hide much. The gel stain and number 1 seem to hide a lot of damage. As long as the finished piece looks relatively flaw-free, it won't really matter which finish you use. You might check out Transcend Furniture Gallery (KZbinr). She uses dental picks, markers, paint, etc. to either pick out paint or disguise it.

I hadn't known about Lane Acclaim style furniture until I started watching this channel and now.... I WANT ONE! But a quick look on-line shows they're not very common here, and I could buy a small side table for... $1,350.00 NZD!!! Holy cow!! As for my vote, hard to really judge - as a fully finished finish, No. 1. The rest look like they will have other layers of finish added, so not finished finished with the finish. I'm going now...

Another vote for the #1 option! The candlelight was a close second, the other photo you showed of it finished was very sharp. It just looks more polished with the contrast toned down a bit and the highlighted tones in the grain. With the candlelight - you’re probably familiar with Dashner’s channel, I’ve seen him mix candlelight with other finishes to get a little more of a walnut color, might be worth experimenting on other pieces. Great work overall, thanks for sharing!

Hi Barry, well you really do like to help people decide, don’t you. So generously taking all that time with painting and drying each section. Yes, the table looks crazy but it is an excellent learning device! Good on you for doing it, for us you viewers! I personally like the first section the most as the wood finish “sings” with a warm glow. The last one was way to bland and too pale and had no lustre. The fourth was a nice colour but not as defined as the first. And yes, the third was not a patch on the first either! So there you have it, young man! It’s nice that you ask our opinion❤️🦘

I like #1 of the 5 finishes you tried on your test table. But the Candlelight stain on your finished coffee table looks the best to me as it shows more contrast between the Ash/Fruitwood vs. the Walnut. In the test piece the contrast seems lost on #2. I have to say that I am just really impressed with your willingness to teach us about refinishing these Acclaim pieces! Subbed, liked, and saved for future reference. Currently in SoCal visiting In-Laws and while here am looking for a Lane Acclaim side table or Guitar Pick table to take back home with me. Dreaming I will find an inexpensive one and be able to restore it similar to what you have done with your tables!
