Beautiful work, think ~75mm of heat reflective insulation/sound barrier, around the engine, easily removable for access/service. Also required GOOD air supply. At my age and limitation, I absolutely hate boat yoga. Best wishes from Northern Canada.

Happy New Year to you and your family. We hope it is good for all of us. One of the joys of getting older is that it brings forgetfullness which gets worse with each passing year.

This is Charlie Chaplin 2025, a real slapstick. I think you should leave as much space around the engine as possible. The engine is then easier to reach for maintenance. There are also some control cables and hoses and electrical wires that need to be connected. If you pack the engine now, you are only making it difficult for yourself. But it is logical that you want to pack everything, that is just a normal reflex at the low temperature. Keep going!

Thanks! We aim to please our viewers (and having fun doing so). I understand what you are suggesting. I will however make detachable walls on the engine encasing. It is very important to me to remove as much noise as possible. I know I am making a fuss for myself. Still I hope this is going to work out. :-)

Thanks! I am looking forward to progressing the projects. Especially the boat. My dad thinks the nursery home is a good place. His - now - short memory makes him forget about things, but we are having a great time together every day, reading through the local newspaper. It is the best of what is still possible I think.

Happy new year and wishing you all the best for 2025.. I am cracking on with my boat restoration and hopefully be done this year. I really enjoy your videos and look forward to your next instalments. I have thought about doing videos of my boat restoration but I’m no good in front of a camera. Kind regards Dave 🏴

Hi Dave! Thanks for your kind and optimistic comments. I hope you reach your target of completing this year. Thumbs up! Regarding standing in front of the camera: Neither was I - that was at least my attitude until video no 9, when my daughter - the editor - talked me into standing in front of the camera. It was hard in the beginning - easier now ;-) Happy new year!

HNY Heldge, Well done for keeping construction going during those short days with the winter cold temperatures. Something to consider with the prop shaft bolts: the engine torque will be working against the coupling clamp load offered by these lower grade stainless screws. Hex socket bolts (grade 12.9, but not screws) torqued @40 nm may offer you more security for that joint. Best regards, P
@hsobstad5 сағат бұрын
Hi Peter. You are actually the forth viewer to advice me about the bolts for the coupling. So I guess I must have fucked up for real. ;-) I have been told to buy 11mm 8.8 bolts with no threads inside the holes in the flanges. So, 40nm torque is ok... Thanks :-)

Hope all goes well for 2025. What would make it safer is if you get rid of that unsupported ladder at the boat. It is a recipe for disaster and made worse by snow and ice. Maybe consider making what is called a 'hop up' from wood with two flat levels ?
@hsobstad5 сағат бұрын
Hi Alan. You are absolutely right about the ladder. That is a daily hazard. Still I am in doubt if I am allowed to build a structure in this harbour. I am already flexing on the current regulations and try not to be of any problem.... :-)

Happy new Year! I love your KZbin channel. I see you do a lot of hand sawing to fit the boat framing, and it looks like you use a single saw, probably a crosscut saw. You may find rip cuts (lengthwise, like the angled cuts for your engine enclosure framing) easier with a rip saw. They have coarser teeth and work better for cutting lengthwise rather than across the boards. You mentioned the importance of the O-rings on the engine heat exchanger. That’s correct, but if they fail you shouldn’t see mixing of sea water and coolant. Your engine uses a shell-and-tube heat exchanger and those O-rings seal the seawater side piping. If they leak, the sea water will leak into the boat but the engine coolant will still be isolated. It would take a hole in the tube bundle to let sea water mix with coolant.
@hsobstad5 сағат бұрын
Hi Earl! Thanks for commenting. I will check on the rip saw. For me it is ok as long as it does not take an eternity to cut through. The info you bring on the heat exchanger is interesting. As I understood from the importer the heat exchanger could be ruined if the seals failed and I thought that was due to corrosion if the aluminium meets the bronze? Still it is reassuring what you comment. :-)

Helge. You need to get the proper coupling bolts for the prop shaft. They should be a fairly tight fit, a 10mm bolt in a 11mm hold will move every time you change the marine gear from forward to reverse and it will wear the coupling out. We have had zero snow and hardly any freezing temperatures this winter. There is a possibility that we might get some sub zero later this week but who knows. The cabin in the mountains looks like the perfect winter retreat. On edit: Happy New Year, almost forgot
@hsobstad6 сағат бұрын
Yes, I got a similar tips from another viewer. I should get 11mm bolts without threads inside the holes. Not to sure they will move a lot though as there are hugh contact surfaces on the flanges and the bolts are quite tight, forcing them together. The cabin is really a compromise of being up and into the mountains, but not to far away from hometown, Bergen. So less snow-safe than deeper into the mountains, but that would steal more time travelling to and from. Happy new year! :-)
@wornoutwrench81284 сағат бұрын
@@hsobstad There should be proper bolts for it, they should be a very snug fit in both sides of the coupler. It might seem that there is lots of clamping force from the bolts but the coupling also depends on the shear strenght of the bolt. Even though you think it is extremely tight, it isn't. The 2 sides of the coupling will move and the bolts will work in the holes and make them so they are no longer round. It doesn't take long. My marine experience is a bit limited, I didn't like working on boats that much, but I have done lots of couplings. I have lost count of how many I have had to change because of wrong bolts or they came loose. And make sure you have the proper grade bolt too., I would think 10.9 would be fine.. You will get it And if I really want snow, I have a ski resort about 45 min away, right now they have a 330 cm base.

Hei Vanligvis så brukes passbolter i flensene. Passbolter har kun gjengeparti utenfor hullene. Du har gjengeparti i hullene og da blir det lite kontaktflate i hullene. Fare for større slakk . Dette var bare et tips. Flotte videoer dere lager.
@hsobstad6 сағат бұрын
