Ep. 6: Riddell Revo 360 vs Schutt Ion 4D Review

No I haven't tried any of the Xeniths but the Virginia tech study concluded that the Revo Speed and Ion 4D were the two top helmets. They have since added 2 more helmets and the Revo 360 is at the top.

You can get concussions with any helmet you wear. I would change your technique and/or change the way you take care of yourself after your concussions. To answer your question I haven't used the Air XP but the Ion is supposed to be better. Supposedly so is the Speed.

College players usually have the newest stuff. A lot of helmets were still using the original Riddell's a couple years ago. You will still see 360s in the NFL it was released last season.

It depends on what you call comfort. Break in period, coolness/hotness, softness? Depends on safety...back of head, front of head, jaw? They are different and I cover them in the video so you have to determine which aspect is more important for you.

Tough choice...I love the pano view of the Ion but overall 360 is probably my favorite. I would say go with whichever one you think looks the best.

I mention visibility in the video. It probably depends on the facemask but overall I would say the Ion is better for a wide field of vision. That doesn't mean all schutts tho as the Ion specifically has a wide field of vision.

That's correct. Those are stickers on the back and front and helmet. For the label when its black or white...those are called bumpers and Riddell sells them in black or white.

Both are great! I like Revo 360 because I think it's better at taking frontal hits, but all around hits I think the Ion 4D is better. You can't go wrong with either.

I play semi pro football and I love my speed 360, I have the same color scheme but I have the RB style facemask with a purple Oakley visor!!!

Original 360s had bladder problems including my own. That has been fixed if you bought a new one from Riddell (not a website). Any Riddell helmets it's better to order from the Riddell Website. No helmet protects 100% from concussions. However I believe that the Schutt Vengeance is the most protective helmet out there. Any Schutt helmet that has the DUAL TPU is going to provide more protection than a Riddell. Riddell has the best chinstraps tho & the lightest helmets. It's always a trade off.

These were to best helmets at the time in my opinion. So depending on whats important to you as a player I compare the two for you to decide whats best for you. Both helmets are good for linebacker.

Season ended in early May, I've been training for Semi-pro. We open our season this weekend with a preseason game.

I haven't experienced headaches with either, but I think I feel hits more in the 360, but no headaches.

The extra eye bars are for eye protection. Without a visor I would definitely recommend it.

That really depends. Takes awhile to get use to for the 360 but both are comfortable.

When you order your helmet you can order in different sizes. I ordered a large size chinstrap.

Revo 360 and Speed are the only Revos I've worn and they don't fall off if the chin strap is tight like its supposed to be

No I haven't experienced that really. But yeah with huge temperature changes you would expect that. You should check helmet fitment before each game at the very least.

That's actually been around for a couple years and its for the Speed not the 360. They have one that's very similar for the 360 that LaMichael Jamesfrom Oregon used but i opted for no extra eyebars because I use a visor and like the open vision.

I think Ion 4D. I was choosing between Speed and Ion and chose Ion last year.

Basically the higher the price, the better the protection. Depends on what you are comfortable with, and you can check the Virginia Tech study for helmet ratings.

I would try the new Vengeance or Ion 4D if you are getting headaches in the Speed. The frontal skeleton is the newest thing on the 360 versus the Speed. Where are you getting hit? The front or everywhere else?

It may fit but it's not meant for that helmet so the protective properties may be compromised. I definitely don't recommend it. Call Riddell...they have tons of facemasks that are not on their website for the speed.

There are 4 Revos...which Revo are you talking about. There is the Revolution, the Revolution Edge, the Revolution Speed and the Revolution 360. Oakley's fit on all of em depending on what facemask you have.

I have a large...try on a fitted cap and use that as your measurement. Then use the website to see what measurement is what size.

You can send it back to the manufacturer but it will be more expensive and they dont give a new shell. They recondition it and make sure its up to spec.

You can def fit it on a speed, but it is kinda of tricky. I put an Oakley on my cousin's S2EG mask

I got the facemask from the same site I ordered the helmet. Any vendor selling the helmet should have the facemask. Visors have to be modified to fit the ion by cutting off the middle tab. Zip ties also work to secure the visor to the facemask.

My personal preference now would be speed over ion. But about year ago I bought the ion over the speed

I use a microfiber cloth and water to keep it clean. Can't really get rid of the scratches though.

If you have a team trainer, see that person and tell them you got hit in the game and were dizzy and you think you may have gotten a concussion and you want to make sure its ok to go back out. They should be able to administer the proper tests.

I'm not sure, you can probably call Schutt. If it has a middle tab most likely it will not fit. The new Nike Blitz eye shields without the middle tab will fit.

@BeatyCole24 Since you play QB you are probably not taking a lot of hits the front of your helmet so I would recommend the Ion 4D since the TPU is probably better protection that the traditional foam and overliner in the Riddell.

my football coach purchased the ions and the revo speed originals last season and all five of the kids that wore the ions got concussions. they said just walking around they felt very comfortable but when compared to the revo speeds, you felt it a lot more when hitting, my coach is getting rid of the this season and buying more revo speeds

Yeah the extra cushioning gets hot in the Speed just like the 360.

I bought the schutt ion for my sophomore year. I used it my entire sophomore year and loved it. I used it through my junior year and bought a 360 half way through my junior year. I used the 360 for 3 days and didn't like it at all compared to my ion. I even liked the revo speed better than the 360. I ended up selling my 360 and went back to my ion with no hesitation. If you ask me, my honest opinion is that I think the ion is way more comfortable and protects much better in my personal experien

It's removable to clean. There is nothing to "switch" it with so after you clean it, you put it back in.

Got my 360 3 days ago its awsome and i think it is better than the schutt, what i did notice thow is that it is very heavy, i used the shutt air b4 and the diference in weight is noticable if you're not a lineman.

Hey if you like keeping your liners clean you can just a skull cap at sports chalet they're like $14 and you wouldn't have to wash it as much. Just thought that might help.
