Ahh yes it was such a cool feeling arriving back at the place she was built. And to put the mast back up in a sort of “sailboat rebuilding” there as well was very nostalgic for Seawind I’m sure!

We did the canal going the other direction a few years ago; what a great adventure. We will be following your wake this summer, back across the canal and down to Florida and the Bahamas. Your channel is fun to watch....currently binging you guys, as we are prepping for our own trip....thanks for the motivation 😁

Loving the history recap of Allied Seawind. Moxie is jealous of Seawind getting to go back home. Nice work you two!

Kudos for the videography and the duck voice-over was epic & funny! It was really cool for you to visit the site of the former Allied factory, the birthplace of our boats (mine = Luders 33 as I replied earlier). The trip over the Erie brings back memories, quaint towns and idyllic places that will be revisiting soon. I stepped my mast at Castleton, I guess I am a cheap salior :)

I recently purchased a Luders 33 and had done some research on where I thought the Allied boat company once stood. I am glad to have learned I had guessed the right location.

Thank you Marcelo! How cool that you own a Luders 33! That model was on the list when I was looking for a boat. So great that you're going to revisit them and hopefully aboard the Luders!

Great guess! Supposedly the molds are in a farm field in upstate NY fairly close to Catskill! It would be fun to go and find them someday

Was wondering what you based the decision on to delete the mizzen mast and transform the boat into a sloop. One of the best sailing qualities of these Allied ketches is the balanced helm that the mizzen produces in a strong blow.

Actually this is a cutter rigged Seawind from the factory per Tom Gilmers design specs. It was an optional upgrade and only around 7 of them were built that way. She’s very well balanced and in a strong blow a reefed main and staysail offer a completely inboard sail plan. They changed the mast position, height, and boom length for the cutters and redesigned the shroud arrangement for the inner forestay m

Way cool! I live in Coxsackie, my wife was born in Catskill, and she had family members who likely worked on your boat! Ours is a Tanzer, built in Ontario. Where you stopped in Athens is where Kim’s parents live now, and where her mom was raised. Athens is a cool little village that desperately needs an industry, they used to build boats there, but ice barges and landing craft for the military. I have dreams of being able to resurrect one of the small yards that is now just a derelict building on the river and make small sailboats, but it seems a bit less than possible here in NY. I guess that reality is why Allied couldn’t survive here, the tax and regulatory climate is pretty hostile to small business. Anyway, you two are too cute for words, you remind me of when Kim and I were young. We’re in our mid 40s now, and now that our kids are getting ready to leave the nest, we’re looking forward to heading south for the winters more often, and with less work hours in between beaches! 🥳

I've heard of Tanzer yachts! Maybe we will see you out there someday. Interesting about Allied and NY. Thanks!
