One thing to add to Justin: Don't overcompress your vocal folds. Make clean contact, not squeezed contact. This will be one of the key differences between you making it a chest belt and a mix belt. If you need help with this, check out the "Compression" portion of Find your Mix Voice Part 1. Hope this helps!

New York Vocal Coaching I am having the same issue. I am 14 and my voice “cracked” (became deeper) 8 months ago. Since then my range has become G2-E4 anything beyond that I will switch into falsetto with no in between. I have already looked at “Finding your mixed voice” and “the mixed voice” and I still haven’t found it. I would also like to pursue a career in musical theatre. I asked for tips in another video and it sent me to this belting trilogy. I would like to increase my range so that i don’t need to switch to falsetto at an F4. Is the reason why I am having so much trouble because my voice is still in a “shaky period” and what can I do to increase my range?
@johnmcminn94554 жыл бұрын
@@nt-wilson213 you have to do a program like this with the course, because you do scale drills. Just like going to the gym for your voice . Voice is like violin, you don't just have intonation, like piano keys, or guitar frets , you have to work scales Vowel modification is very important . going from G4 up you want to do "eeyy" as in "it"or "sing" Going up around B4 you go uhh as in UP or "cut" Try weepy voice Mixing takes a lot of practicing different mix technique because you are blending ranges. You have to work all the ranges fry bass, baritone , tenor, and soprano

That is what your supposed to do. Also swelling falsetto and grabbing chest at like E5 is another one You hear Metal singers like Iron Maiden do that all the time Mix when it is 75% chest is just natural After you do vowel mods over and over you stop thinking about going between them But you have to analyze what words you sing and change the syllables slightly My favorite weepy mix sound besides Geoff Tate is King Diamond, come to the sabbath , now that is an epic strong mix mostly chest

The thing I don't understand is why would a person want to drag chest voice in a song even after learning to do a mix. Not only is a mix a much more pleasant sound to listen to, but it is also less risky and fatiguing to the chords, and if done correctly can still sound quite powerful. After learning my mix coordinations, I only drag pure chest voice past the transition to strengthen it for the purpose of making the mix easier, but I would seldom use it in a song because it just doesn't sound good.

Everytime I try to belt, my voice cracks. :( what do you suggest I do to fix this?
@EnlightenedSprite8 жыл бұрын
Seems to me like you're using too much chest and dragging up too far. The chest can drag but it can only drag so far before you start feeling the tug, hence your vocal crack. So you need to then access your mix properly in order to stop that tug. Hope this helps and I hope you've found the answer. It's good to note that you might just be belting way too high and the notes that you want to hit might not be in your range, so you'll have to drop the key by a step or two.

How long did it take you to master your mix? I'm 13 and lately I've been really practicing and strengthening my falsetto and whistle tone. This has obviously made them both very strong registers for me, but after not belting as often as I used to, it's weaker then it should be. I used to be high for my age but now I'm more of an average - low belter because I ignored it for so long (I used to be at about an A5 and now I'm at about a C#5 before it gets ugly). I just really want to be strong in all registers and I'm not a 100% sure how quick it should be before I'm able to master my mix. Thanks! P.S. That D5 was fantastic and I just keep listening to it over and over lol.

Can someone explain why my throat tickles when I belt a higher note? I don’t wanna hurt myself
@NewYorkVocalCoaching3 жыл бұрын
That can happen if you're blowing too much air. :) Try using less breath and lowering your volume. Play around with adding more Nasal Resonance as well! Episodes 92, 101, 114 and 115 can help! -NYVC

I don't quite understand your question. Vocal type or range doesn't define anything. You can be a contrabass and still have a mixed range.

It is when a singer does runs or riffs that are not written in the music, and they do it on the fly in the moment. It is musical improving of the melody. -NYVC

Justin, a tenor: Last time for a male we went up to only around G4 which is pretty high for a chest belt but not really very high for a mix. Me, a baritone: Excuse me??? 👁️👄👁️
