Best thing for pouring tar is a metal watering can. That way you can heat it in the can then pour from the spout. A lot less messy and you can leave the excess in the can and just heat it again when you need more

If anyone complains about how rough your tar is feel free to let them come and show you how to do it properly. If not then they're just talkers not doers there are so many ways to do something right or wrong or semi right and it doesn't matter so long as the job is done and it does what it's supposed to. Thank you for letting us see what you're doing my name is Bob and I live in Virginia USA

Just remember to use marine/waterproof cement or you´ll have to cover the top with tar to in order to keep the cement from absorbing the water.

I am truly amazed with Simon's skills. He made some floor templates, took them away to the workshop and made the welded steel floor braces, painted them and when he returned to the boat they fitted perfectly first time. When I do anything similar mine fit to the nearest 10mm. Well done team.

I have never tared a boat, but I have worked with tar before. What works well is to use an old school metal galvanised watering can. there is a wide opening at the back to get you nuggets of tar in there and you can sit it on your gas ring. Then you have a nice spout to pour it out of. You will need some good gloves to hold the handles with though. You can of course leave any unused tar in there to solidify and cook it up again next time.

Making great progress. The tar and cement is a well tried method and was used in my old fishing boat. The planking under old cement I removed was perfect and the tar acts as a good gasket between cement and the hull. I was told a trick with the tar is to mix some old engine oil with it as it will keep the tar slightly more flexible and it seemed to work for me. Keep cracking on you have great momentum now and a band of happy helpers and followers. Sad I’m so bloody far away to come help. Andy UK

When I was a kid I’d watch the roofers tar the flat roofs. They chopped up the tar billets with an axe. You could use a hatchet for the small amounts if you wanted. Enjoy watching your progress.

The usual equipment for heating and pouring tar is a galvanised watering can without the spray nozzle and to get it into wide spaces/edges pour the tar on the back of a spade.

ref your being 2ft short for painting the hull. If you get an old scaffold plank then screw on 2"x2" at a 90 Degree angle sticking out 150mm each side at each end. 200mm in from each end. get 2 lengths of rope long enough to tie on the cleats on the focsle down to the plank so that its 2ft off the mud this will give you a platform to reach the top of the bow for painting. Hope this helps. Or a bosuns chair. Stay safe.
