Ep 9 BTS Hanle- Finding a homestay is a challenge Highest motorable pass, Umling La | Ladakh Tourism

We started our day at Hanle- Ladakh by looking for homestay for our stay there. It was a challenge more for us because we were looking for homestay that can provide us electricity in the night, as we need to charge our gadgets.
Hanle is situated at an altitude of around 14,800 feet above sea level. The village is known for its stunning natural beauty, clear skies, and its significance as a site for astronomical observations.
In this video you see our road journey from Hanle to Umling la. Umling la is about 75 km away from Hanle and 255 km away from Leh.

Previous day we stayed at Hanle house, they had power back up but accommodation was available only for 1 day, then we shifted to Mily way homestay.
Hanle house charged us Rs 5000 for one day incl meals and Milky way charged us Rs 2800.
The most important electricity is a challenge in Hanle. Electricity is only available from
6pm to 11pm post 11pm there is no electricity. There are few Guest houses in Hanle which provide the power backup post 11 pm, Milkyway homestay & Hanle House.
Mobile network- As if now only BSNL network is available in Hanle but soon airtel and jio will be available as they are in process of setting up OFC
Umling La - Umling La Pass, is one of the highest motorable passes in the world.It sits at an elevation of approximately 5,883 meters (19,024 feet) above sea level. Road to Umling la is adventurous, the mobile signals are not there, in the entire route from Hanle to Umling la we were struggling with a proper network. It also holds Guiness book world record.
Then we returned back to Hanle, we stayed at Milkyway Homestay, per night Rs 2800 for double occupancy with Breakfast & Dinner.

As you mentioned about getting stuck with vehicle on these barren roads, recollected same experience where I got stuck with bike near shyok river, 25kms away from Durbuk where there was a mechanic with very limited resources. It happened at 1230PM and could only continue the ride at 9PM. Thank you for showing Hanle region, looking forward to visit.

We also spent a day and night in Hanle, visited the observatory. It was a wonderful experience. Though there is not much vegetation in Ladakh region, it has it's own beauty. Colourful mountains of are just so much mesmerizing.
