Thanks to your local guide. He took you to right places, explained the things pretty well. He also explained you how to eat certain regional food. I was getting anxiety attacks because you were not eating Rava Idli with Potato curry, and initially you were not even looking at raita to eat with Bisibele Bhath. He finally made you try that and then you fell in love with it. My only suggestion to everyone who tries different food is - always ask the locals how do they eat. They will always be happy to explain you how it’s done correctly. You get once is a life time opportunity to taste authentic food at the places they originated. Don’t throw it away. Udupi cuisine is legendary and I am glad that you got opportunity to taste it at its birthplace.

5:43 Some insight into the Jasmine or Mallige as being referred here. In Mangalore/Udupi region the most common Mallige one would fine is Bhatkal Mallige or Shankarapura Mallige. The one that you see here is the later. The unique fragrance & quality of flowers has earned a GI Tag for it. Shankarapura is a town that's about 10 km south of Udupi. The Shankarapura Mallige is always tied with plantain stalk and not strung together by a thread as against Bhatkala Mallige. Hence its termed auspicious. It usually comes in a pack of 4 Chendu (more familiarly know as 1 Atte); 1 Chendu on an average has 800 buds. The rates for the same are decided on a daily auction at Shankarapura & based on the Supply & Demand the rates vary. During the off-season, the rates for 1 Chendu could be as low as ₹50 & during peak season the rates could go up to ₹1200 - ₹1500. Phew... That's it from a local lad from Shankarapura/Udupi!!!

Udupi is a sacred land of Lord Krishna. This idol installed by Sri Madhwacharya (incarnation of Vayu bhagawan, Hanuma in tretayuga, Bhima in Dwapara and Madhwa in Kaliyuga) was worshipped by Rukmini devi (Godess Lakshmi) in Dwaparayug. There are Ahstamutts and they take turn to worship Lord Krishna every two years. Anna Dana is free in all temples in Dakshina Kannada districts for many many decades

What he showed as sweet potato is not sweet potato at all. It is called "nanakizhangu" in Malayalam. I don't know the English word for that. It has a slightly slimy texture. And the suran he showed is purple yam which is called "kaachil" in Malayalam. It's a great video for sure. Just felt like pointing out this 😊
