This is absolutely great for me to see as this is the route my grandfather took on his 1918 Indian motorcycle after his Army service in France during WWI from Chicago to Southern California. He had gotten a job at Firestone Tire Company in Los Angeles and was on his way to claim is position there. Much of the route was unimproved as he traveled it before 1924. He would order a Sears Catalogue California Bungalow Home, have it delivered piece by piece to a lot he purchased in Maywood near the corner of Atlantic Ave & 61st Street and finished construction himself in 1924. It was our family home until 1983 when it was unfortunately sold in probate after my father passed away. Following and loving every second of your video vlog on Route 66! Cheers!🍻

A bit of American history: The Missouri River at St. Louis was the debarkation point for the 1803 Core of Discovery expedition by Lewis and Clark sponsored by Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States. All in what were called Keel Boats. I may be a bit partial, but I've always considered their expedition one of the most courageous, dangerous and adventurous in history. It's an interesting story of human nature. Even the story of some of the participants after the expedition are extraordinary.

Kan ka kee. LOL But that's ok. I would not expect everyone to know the pronunciations. You missed videoing the famous Dixie Truckers Home at McLean, IL. Been there since the late 1920's. Like most everything on Rt66, it's changed. You also went though my home town of Lincoln, IL. Too bad so many places are gone now. You would have enjoyed the original Pig Hip Restaurant in Broadwell, IL. Much of that flat ground in Illinois was glaciated. Left it mostly flat and with good black soils. When you crossed the lock into Missouri, that was the mighty Mississippi river you crossed. The Missouri river was just upstream. A few miles further upstream is the Illinois river. Thanks for the videos!

In the days before large chain motels, there were "Auto Courts" with an office , then many individual cabins. These gave way to Motels, then soulless chains offering breakfast and "points" toward free stays.

Hi Becky. The name "sandwich chair" was coined when we were traveling through the UK on our narrowboat. We took a walk in a wildlife sanctuary and we came across a park bench. There was a plaque on the back suggesting that it would be nice to enjoy a sandwich whilst looking at the view. Hence "sandwich chair"!

Wow, have things changed ! I grew up in Illinois and finding old rout 66 was impossible in the 60's when I went off to college (and never returned, short story, I married a girl from Ohio and moved there). Really enjoyed your windscreen view of my old state. Not sure if you are still crossing the US but you may want to take in Stephen Fry in America, on NetFlix to compare Route 66 notes with the portion he traveled on. Great job, and so positive !

2600 miles - that's miles and miles of miles. Hope you're as excited by nostalgia in the last 500 miles. Attempts at preserving Route 66 are kind of patchy, long stretches of nothing much to see, though it will still be very different than your cross country motorcycle tours. A belated wave hello from Indiana as you probably flew over my house coming into O'Hare Airport.

Missouri is pleasing to the eyes after traveling across the more or less flat glacial plains of Illinois, isn’t it? I've caught quite a few trout at Bennett, it's a very nice park. But I am surprised you didn’t visit Abe Lincoln's grave in Springfield or the Cahokia Mounds near Collinsville (BTW - the horseradish capital of the world and home to the big Brooks catsup bottle).

If you appreciate the difference in architectural styles compared to OZ you should have a look at some of the videos posted on the now decay of Detroit.I have traveled a bit, but went there to visit a mate in the early 80's (he was a wounded Vet from Grenada invasion)when it was still booming and l would talk him into just driving around the old suburbs looking at the different mixes of architecture on the houses compared to OZ,now they make videos on them all falling down from being abandoned for years.

Me and the missus reckon you are rocking the Alby Mangles look Magnus ;)Nothing wrong with going a bit Feral with the longer hair while you are exposed to the sun all day.l am always particularly careful with the back of the neck and hands (while steering the boat all day in sun) as both are renowned skin cancer spots among us guides, light finger-less gloves and looking feral are standard kit ;) .If you haven't left yet, now is the time to stock up on waterproofs and cold weather gear for the boat, incredible how cheap they are compared to OZ etc.Nothing wrong with good knock around wet gear for the boat you can get from the bigger disposals there as well, some of them are huge. Really enjoying watching you 2 as usual all the best.

Hi Daryl. We are planning on stocking up in the US on our return to SV Nutshell. We did notice how inexpensive things are in the US compared to Australia. Thanks. W.

This is useless, all they do is drive by everything looking out the window My girlfriend and I took rt 66 from spring field illinois to chicago in a day and stopped at every town got out and explored the area The polka dot drive in is wonderful and had hamburgers like in the 50s There are murals, museums ,stores and lots of old service stations in illinois alone We also went from springfield to williams Az A month ago hitting 90 % of the spots on 66 If you dont have the time to do it right just stay on the freeway Watch justin scared rt66 vlog and see what you can see Your video doesnt show the wealth of attractions that is there

Hi Patrick Sorry that you didn't like our trip. We loved it. We had a ball in the US. The people we met were wonderfull and the sights we saw were amazing. We only had a couple of weeks to do 5000km so we couldn't stop and look at everything. Anyway our videos are mainly for our own memories and the Nutters out there. Not for people to whinge about. Hope that you might like the next one. If you don't like it then please keep it to yourself. Cheers

Life in a Nutshell Well I think you are living life to the max and cramming in some great life experiences, producing not only great memories but great little vignettes of digital output for you and your family to look back on. I really enjoy your output - Oh and Patrick if you are reading this -get a life and troll people your own age.
