It's not the body of evidence that is important in fitness marketing, it's the body of the person providing the evidence that's important.

Great episode! ..and fun fact! I've been training Bjj for many a year now, and I'm happy to report that standing on a stability ball is a very frequent occurrence. To my fellow grapplers defence: it is mainly done on the mats - so soft flooring is a plus. Also, wrasslin and balancing on a person is often times less stable than the stability ball. Always I should say. I would say that adding weight would be very stupid even within the weird haze of frequently folding clothes with people still in them.

The Arthur Jones quote I remember was something like "Have you ever vomited from a single set of barbell curls? If not, you simply don't know what hard work is"

I had a pair of those 'chest expanders' thru the 70s and early 80s. I did figure out after a couple of years that they worked the back, not the chest.

As a child of the 70s, the strand puller (didn't know that's what it was called) was fairly ubiquitous, and could be found in any number of friend's basements alongside the concrete and vinyl weight sets, and of course, "grippers".

Thanks for the history of some of my favourite and most detested pieces of equipment. I was actually using the bad boy/good boy machine (my coach calls it the "come chat to me machine") when it was discussed on the podcast. I've noticed that it doesn't get a lot of love at my gym, I found it very helpful during rehab from a fracture pelvis, same with the much maligned leg extension and seated leg curl machine. Zero points for style or machismo but so helpful during injury recovery.

I remember my father using an iron spring expander when I was a kid. Then when I was around 15 (just 10 years ago) i easly bought one with rubber atachments on the internet. Expander is still remembered here in Poland 😉🦾. Also I hope you actually red the witcher and not just watched that crappy Netflix adaptation, Omar 😉

Umm since last year I've designed a machine and patenting it. I'm amazed how no one came up with it, it'll sell worldwide to gyms. No not rocks in two baskets on each end of a stick, one step above that :) (I just felt like a show-off not a good feeling, but you may be seeing the a brand ''KaGaN'' on a machine with ques in front of in gyms in the next 5 years, so yeah that'll be mine ;) hopefully, finance/manufacturer to sort out yet )
