in bar 7&8 it's a ii-IV of Ab. effectively up a semi tone. could this be equivalent to g# dim( Ab dim)?

Just to get the question clear. Bar 7 and 8 is a II- (V) progression in Ab, a semitone up from the key of G. Are you asking if you can substitute an Abo for the chords of Bbm7 and Eb7? I think the word equivalent may be problematic in this context. I would imagine your goal is to find alternate progressions that work with the melody, is that correct? If you could provide a bit more context that would help me to answer your question. thanks, L

In place of the Bbm 7 at bar 7, Bbdim7 sounds nice there, as I've seen in other charts.
