The way I describe it is the brass gets work hardened just like if you bend steel back and forth enough it will break off. That's basically what happens to brass without relieving the stress in it by annealing.

In about a week or two, I am ordering one of these... I am slowly checking of the list of toys, one at a time.. And this one I really should have put higher on the list of toys to get, as I wanted one of these from the first time Elfster showcased it... One of these would get me away from the salt bath annealing that my grandfather gave me.. while it is getting exceptionally difficult to locate the salt (as it is considered a consumable). The closest location I can get the salt is Canada, at $90 a lbs, due to Canada's HazMat shipping costs... The other issue with salt, it is MESSY, and corrosive to steel. Don't get me wrong, I love how it anneals, it is fast, and even and predictable, but, it is time to take advantage of this great machine that EP Integrations ha put together to assist us in this sport. Plus, it'll help put food on his family's table, and his business partner's as well. (The quiet guy, lol). I almost about a year ago, purchased a different company's annealer, and it was just perfect timing when Elfster show cased this unit... $250 to $275 bucks for his unit.... VS... the one I almost bit the bullet on, $1900... WHAT!!!! Yes, it was the induction heater type, although clever, they are costly. My experiences with induction heating, or rather, heat treating and annealing on the industrial world, those machine work when they want to work, and fail often or cook off, due to the high speed fly-back transformer electronic that causes the high frequency reversing polarity (HFAC). Like wise, if the induction coils are not matched to the load, you wreck the outputs (pop the caps $$$). One thing most folks do not know about the induction coil heating systems, is that they are extremely power hungry ,and you electric bill will show you that. The old rule of thumb, power in, is power out. Induction heating or melting of alloys, serves its function, but, 3 to 5 hours dropping brass on a induction system, would raise my electric bill 20 bucks a month, as you are just about maxing out the 15 amp breaker with that system. Hence, why I will be getting this unit that uses LP gas. Now, These EP unit, I can run off of a multitude of gases. from the easiest to the worst case scenario. Please allow me to example. The easiest, is simply running to the store, buying a few LP disposable bottles, like what was shown in the videos. To buying the refill adapter that lets you refill the smaller throw away bottles from gas grill tank or the larger LP tanks for fork trucks. The worst case, as per, end of world times go, which is not (per say) the cheapest case, unless you already have the solar system installed, which is the HHO nitrogen generator gas touch, off of my solar panel system. If I can cut through 1/8" thick steel, It can for sure anneal brass with HHO gas. Those are of course, extreme scenario's, but that is just how I think.. Good luck, and I look forward to getting one of these units very shortly myself.

For those that enjoy tinkering, there are videos of a gentleman in Australia that shows you how to build your own that has a reservoir that holds and feeds about 100 rounds and cost about $100-$125 to build . Takes a little bit of time to construct but was fun to build. Downside: Time consuming and is not nearly as adjustable to different calibers. Thanks Kotaboy for your videos.

Depends on the cases. Something low and slow with a thicker wall I wouldn't stress for longevity purposes. 308/7.62, that competes with something like 3006 in terms of pressure require a tighter firing chamber inside the case to build that pressure will wear that brass quicker. You'd be doing good to get 5-7 reloads with trimming as needed on a 3006, where as a 308/762 you'd be doing good to get 3-4 before the neck is so thin it splits. Another thing to mention is case head to body expansion. I use a flattened peice of wire turned with a 90° bend to the end to "scratch" the inner wall to feel for a lip. If it has a lip you might as well toss it, it's the head about to separate from the case body and you have one maybe two reloads before she's toast.
