This has been extremely helpful, thank you! I will be moving to the Philippines sometime within the next year and hoping to employ some casual people to assist me with various things with my work. I’m very keen to find out about the Filipino cultures so the people I work with feel respected and understood and I can explain myself better.

We have hired Joey's services to train employees in our company and I highly recommend him as a corporate trainer. We are a small company and small companies tend to overlook training as we did. The training has been extremely beneficial for all of us, including the managers in the company. I hope more SMEs invest in training their people. More power to you Joey!

I'm a Filipino living in the US. I have never experience working in the Philippines so I am more of deadline driven workaholic mode were most Americans are (I mean to the American people I know). In the company I work for, when there are due dates, expect you are going to start working on it ASAP. She likes to work 2 days before the deadline. I don't know what's in her or how she understand deadline driven project or financial reporting deadline, but when we established date expect to work on it right after the meeting, and not 2 days before the deadline as we need the report to be accurate for managerial decision making and/or sending it to external auditor(s). She said it works for her when she was working in the Philippines. I understand that, US and Philippines are two different culture and two different country. She's not use to people who always look serious and minimal time to chit chat and she interpret it as 'Unfriendly people'. She needs to adapt the culture. It's not the culture that will change for her.

It's not really about "taking risks" in the sense that we know what dangers lie ahead and we're still brave enough to do it. It's the FATALISTIC ATTITUDE that make Filipinos appear as if they take risks. Filipinos easily say something like "BAHALA NA" or "Whatever happens will be." or something like, "GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF IT/ME." instead of making a good due diligence on the risk involve and coming up with a plan.

Thanks for the video! It's helpful, but not too many details on the actual type issues that might happen between cultures. Giving more examples of issues that may occur, could help me relate better with Filipino co-workers. Also, don't know where Americans fit on the chart.

Yo If you're an American or someone from a place where you normally don't practice a discernable heirarchy in the workplace, like you don't wish to be addressed as "sir" and you'd welcome entry level employees to go to you directly to talk about their concerns, you may need to spend some time showing this kind of culture yourself to your Filipino employees/friends by your own actions. It may take a while, but it will eventually catch on. Those Filipinos who've worked in the BPO industry for a while have somehow made the adjustments.

The MASCULINITY can be seen in pop culture and in the context of male-female relationships. Also, mysoginistic jokes and stereotypes are still common in some workplaces or among groups of people, although you're right: We are okay with working with a female boss or submitting to female authorities.

WE ARE MORE MATRIARCHAL, I WOULD RATHER SAY, AS WE CALL OUR COUNTRY OUR MOTHERLAND WHILE WESTERNERS CALL THEIRS AS FATHERLAND.

I thought the Philippines was matriarchal, too. After some research, I come to the conclusion that it's not, however may seem to be to Americans, b/c it's less patriarchal than the US.
