Build a Custom Egress Window Cover and Save

You know when snow falls from the roof it will fall right through it.I am getting ready to build my own for a large window below grade.The window I have is 58x62 so need a big box and cover and since the roof is less then a foot from my window cause my home sits in the ground I need something that can hold allot of snow weight.Planing on using wire mess instead of screen and plexi glass with vents on the sides for air flow.

How is this holding up? Does it collect a lot of water or debris? If you were going to build it again what would you change? Thank you!

Will the screen keep out water? Seems to defeat the purpose. Very well built so I can tell your a tradesmen just wondering if it keeps out the rain thank you.

That supposed to be eggress window. How people inside the house can scape through without ladder and any openings!

What about animals that rip at the screening, did you use metallic screening for strength?

How do you move that when it's covered in snow?

Push out from bottom most likely so snow tips away from house. Maybe clear some from sides first. If emergency exit, punch through screen, and heave.

How much weight would the screen hold?

Should've used treated lumber.
