EP1-- First day on our new (to us) boat -- What have we done? Let's start this Great Loop Adventure.

Well, we didn't figure out how to vlog our first full week on the boat, so we are just going to do it bit by bit. Here is day 1 where we pick up our dream loop boat and then proceed to go on an emotional roller coaster.

We visited your fine country for a month back in 1999. We hope to take our kiddos after we complete the loop. Our tentative plans are to rent a campervan for the month of December in 2024. You live in an extraordinary country!!!! We can't wait to come back.

I can see from the video you don’t feel secure or comfortable in this strange new surrounding, but I and my family have been in the same position and I can honestly tell you that you will settle. It will take a few months but when you do…..you will feel more comfortable on board then in your house. Just enjoy the transition.

Congrats we are 3/4 the way done with our first loop. Just remember have the kids use their life jackets on the docks as they can easily loose their footing and fall in. We have marriage savers headsets but have gotten bike helmets with blue tooth that won't fall off in the water. And we can use them while riding and exploring the towns on our bikes. Congrats again

Once again congratulations. It was great seeing the kids wearing PDFs. That's one good habit you want to constantly reinforce. Secondly, it might seem silly but always do a radio check before you leave the dock. It's a pleasant courtesy amongst fellow boaters and will give you an idea of the true professionals in your surrounding area. Finally you're going to ask yourself what have we done about a million times over the next year or so, get used to that question LOL.

LOL that may be the theme of our year for sure. Yes, radio checks are part of our pre-departure check list for sure. And when we couldn't get the marina to answer, we confirmed that our radio was working with a nearby vessel. PDF's are an absolute requirement while out of the cabin when we are underway. We take safety very seriously! If you ever notice us doing something that you consider a safety concern, please let us know (in a kind way of course). Congratulations! We just came across your channel and couldn't be happier for you. We know your excitement because our family was pretty much in the same position six months ago! Our family of four just bought a 52' boat in Stuart this past November. We spent a few weeks getting it ready and so far have cruised roughly 750 miles, including a trip to the Dry Tortugas! You guys are going to have so much fun! Unfortunately we had to leave our boat for a few weeks to attend to some business in Michigan, but are headed back down to Stuart next week. We're going to make a short trip to the Bahamas before heading up the East Coast into the Great Lakes. Hope we cross paths and see you out there on the water!

Very cool! Boat worked fine, you handled the docking well. That marina is not an easy place to dock either. I live in Stuart and can help you with stores/restaurants etc. if you are still in Stuart when this blog is posted.

Does the boat have bow and stern thrusters? Mine doesn't. When I'm getting blown off I usually have to come in faster so I don't end up on the neighbor. Always make sure your crew has been told what to do. Headsets help a ton. Never be to proud to abort and make another approach. I see that it says Friday Harbor Wa. on the transom.... that's my cruising grounds.... Have fun and get to know the boat before you head out on the Loop.😎

Great advice! We used our airpods but are thinking we need headsets. Do you have some that you love and would recommend? And yes, we have thrusters which helped!

@@TheBoomershines we have Sena. The sound quality is great. Our only complaints are that when we haven't used them in a month or so they are always dead and it takes a long time to charge. If that happens and we need them then we use our cell phones with bluetooth earbuds. That works ok but worry that we could lose an earbud overboard. The Sena's also seem hard to pair. Thinking about changing to Eartech. Have boating friends that like them. 😎

Congrats on the new boat and the planned loop. Very exciting! Your enthusiasm is understood, but for future vids, your high pitched voice can quickly become annoying on camera. The video camera should be held still or slowly panned. Try taking portraits of your favorites kids scenes or sunsets. hold a 2-5 second shot before moving on. If it is too long you can whack it in editing. Please include a map each time to orient us as to where you've been and are headed. (See itchy Boots. She uses a black marker on a paper map and traces her daily route. Very effective, quick and easy.) I see a couple of video helpers and camera persons on your crew. They'll be great help! You automatically have hours of content showing the engine room and navigation gear. Also, a cooking show or two while learning about your new appliances. You will do very well and i won't miss a story!
