I just had my ACL and Meniscus repair surgery yesterday. I woke up to use the bathroom and pop another pill for pain Management. During my surgery they performed a nerve block which assisted in a better recovery out of anesthesia. I'm begging to feel my leg again and it feels heavy. I have never been this restricted from everyday life. I am also an ex athlete who enjoy still being athletic at 45. I so needed this positive but truthful reinforcement and actually what to expect. Wishing everyone who reads this the best in their recovery.

@@tamiltrends22 yeah second surgery on same leg, had my first in 2017 with keyhole surgery, that was quite manageable pain wise, can’t remember how long the entire recovery was, but I think generally it takes like 6-9 months to fully recover, I’m not entirely sure though. My second was 3-4 weeks ago with meniscus and root repair, with a hamstring graft also so it was quite substantial, the pain for this one was far more severe

I am 23 for comparable measures. I had ACL, meniscus and MCL surgery with a bruised knee cap 2 years ago. It was the worse pain i have ever experienced and i have a very high pain tolerance. Was peeing in a bottle for almost a week as i physically couldn’t take the pain of moving it in the slightest. I took physical therapy extremely serious and had a very good physician. After about a year i was at or very near what i was at prior to my ACL tear and even played basketball at pretty much at the same level maybe just a bit slowed. Fast forward to today 2 years later i just had ACL and Meniscus surgery on my other knee (yes they got both of mine sadly) from playing basketball again. I told my doctor and all my friends that will be the last time i pick up a basketball as it’s not worth going through this again. However i had surgery less then 12 hours ago and it is not nearly the same pain although i used the same surgeon because of how well my first ACL healed. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m used to the pain, know exactly what not to do and what to do, or if it’s just a case by case but i expected the worse pain imaginable like last time but i am already walking (on crutches) to the bathroom and as long as I’m taking my painkillers and icing it the pain isn’t really bad at all. I share my story to show that if i can do this TWICE anybody can. YOU can do this. Your brain is a powerful tool don’t let it physic you out. You are much more powerful then you believe. Good luck all !!

I fell and thought I was being dramatic when I had it checked out two days later. In my 3rd week I got my MRI results and started balling. At the worst I thought I had a minor meniscus tear and was being dramatic. My dr proceeded to explain that she was shocked I limped into my appointments and had a smile on my face. I’ve been struggling emotionally since my surgery was scheduled as I had a major tear. Thank you for the background on the procedure and diagnosis. I’m terrified but happy my pain was validated. ❤

I've torn my ACL twice (once on each knee), and I just got to say that the recovery speed can very a LOT. Speaking from mine and several other ACL tears recoveries I got to know personally, this recovery was actually really fast and successful. This is to say that you should not base your recovery stages solely from this video, as that can lead you to frustration and potentially re-injure yourself. My best advice is to always listen to your body and to focus on your own recovery, on your own specificities. Be disciplined and intentional in your recovery, and don't rush it! You got this 💪

Its been a week now since I had my first surgery ever and I was very nervous. Its an ACl reconstruction surgery in my left knee. All went went and I am in the rehabilitation process. First 2-3 days were the most difficult, minumum sleep and constant pain but gradually you are able to get adequate sleep with less pain. Going in 2nd week with crunches but the pain is less now. Post surgery the physio work is extremely important to have the normal movement back. Stay strong and keep making progess everyday 💪

What I’ve learned on my healing journey was listen to your body before anything . Yes you should still heed the directions of your physician or orthopedic , but listening to your body and altering your eating habits are key . I’ve been able to heal fast and almost get full bend of my knee sighing 3 weeks. I’ve been able to put slight pressure on my knee since week 1 . My pt doesn’t want me to push myself as hard I know the risk but I listen to the signs of my body aswell as the warnings of the system. Staying determined and motivated is key

Can we start bending knee right after ACL surgery? So let's say after 2 days after ACL surgery we start bending knee gently without pain. But it can be up to 30-40-50 degrees possible. The question is: won't it stretch ACL unnecessarily?! Won't it lead to ACL being too loose in the long term?

These comments are reassuring. I tore my acl a few days after my birthday, and just recently got surgery after months of waiting and rehab. It’s been so frustrating cos i basically felt normal prior to the surgery as I’d been doing so many excercises to put on as much muscle protection as possible, I was even confident enough to dunk (off my unaffected leg). But now after the surgery even the tiniest movements are so painful, even though I’m pumped with codine. I thought something must’ve gone wrong till I checked the comments, cos this is way worse than when I tore it even, glad to see this is normal.

After 4 weeks of surgery I started walking without the knee brace but with a little limp and get tired after like 15 minutes of walking. Now I am 11 months post surgery I have no pain and full range of motion and going to the gym regularly and jogging. I still don't feel my knee is 100% which is normal according to my doctor. @@seancarterx So when I tore my ACL back in 2015 I didn't know it was ACL and was misdiagnosed. First few days after injury knee was swollen and had pain when bending my knee. 1 month after injury I was limping but then it became fine in regards to regular daily errands. after a few months of injury I was even jogging normally and pain free but I knew something was wrong in my knee I felt it is weaker so I went to another doctor and they did MRI and it was confirmed as ACL. You can live with an ACL tear if you don't do sport activities even my doctor notified me that. But the younger you are when you do your surgery the better and quicker recovery you will have. Pre-surgery I was a bit overweight so I only did diet and exercises to reduce my weight so I can have better recovery and less chances of re-injury after surgery. Now I am doing well and feel more confident regarding my knee but still scared to go back to sports yet so I am giving it another 1 or 2 months til I go back to sports . You need to be 24/7 with her for the first month of surgery because it is painful and she will have difficulty with everything we do regularly. I wish a quick and speedy recovery to your gf :)

i had my left knee reconstructed twice. In the second time, after the surgery about 33 days, i went to the gym and did some rehab exercise. There was a PT that I hired forced me to do some stuffs like farmer's walk with 18 kg of dumbbell each side and lot of joggings at the fifth week of the recovery. Even though i had already warned him about the amount weight that he put on the exercise was too much and heavy and also before that I told him about every stage of the acl recovery and he was bragging about he knew everything knee anatomy so he didn't had to listen me. Til one day my knee was aching during the framer's walking practice, i stopped the training immediately and had a serious conversation about his knowledge of acl injury and that asshole confessed that he had no knowledge as long as experience in acl rehab, he didn't even no what was acl stand for. No words could describe the furious when i heard this. Right now is nearly 6 months after the reconstruction, and i'm gonna go to the hospital to re-exam whether my knee is ok or not. Just hope you guys a good recovery and totally come back

I tore mine half a year ago while skiing and I'll likely get surgery next month since I want to be able to play football again with my friends. What sucks about it is that the surgery doesn't feel that urgent. Unless I strain it by jumping or other explosive movements, I have no pain and can run and squat no problem. So I'm definitely not looking forward to half a year or more in agony. But at the same time I know it needs to happen if I ever want to do athletic stuff again.

Good Video. Alot of solid advice. I tore my both meniscus's and acl in 2012. Confirmed through mri. Anyway at the time i didn't feel comfortable with surgery. Just did my own rehab and as i didn't have any buckling or pain continued to play. Did a follow up mri a couple of weeks ago just to check on it. Nothing changed. Was recommended to just to do it. I am two weeks post op and was given the all clear to walk with full weight without braces and crutches. I did do leg strengthening exercises but i do that regardless but i think that helps post op. Everyone is different even though i feel like i can just play right now i will still just take my time and follow the rehab. One surgery is good enough for me.

As someone with an MCL surgery in a few days, I feel behind since I have done very little prehab and my knee is still swollen. Its been tough bending the knee due to a damaged PCL(grade 1, the mcl is 3). The ortho said I should keep it in the leg immobilizing brace with it binded and I have, but you with your ACL were doing full activities which feels almost impossible for me at this time. Nervous about surgery and the days after but I totally relate to feeling like a whole season of my identity has been lost in my sport due to this injury, and I want to hit PT as hard and responsibly as I can.

Hi. I have a bucket handle tear and total acl rupture same knee. Awaiting specialist input and likely surgery. How did it go for you? Have you had the meniscus repaired throu sutures or shaving off the tear? Dis you have both meniscus and acl at same time ? What was your new acl taken from: artificial, cadaver, or hamstring? Pain after ? Thanks.

I was playing basketball and tore my knee pretty bad and then after a couple months I felt comfortable and I tried to play basketball again and tore my meniscus acl and lcl(i think if not mcl). decided to have surgery and after I was stuck in bed for 2 weeks on an ice machine barely able to use my crutches and make it to a chair in the shower. I play basketball a little bit now with a brace but nothing too hard. I wish I had the mentality to work as hard as you, your knee was stronger after week 6 than mine is now. Having surgery to reconstruct my ACL, MCL and LCL in just under a month, really nervous for the operation having lots of anxiety around it and also the recovery and how bad the pain is going to be, anyone have any tips going into surgery and after? Also currently doing physio to try and get full movement in my leg but I feel like I’m getting no where with it. If anyone has any advice or tips that would be super helpful! x

Hi, I also had reconstruction of both acl and mcl and stitching of meniscus. My pain was not that bad actually, but i have to be a lot more careful than the guy in this video. I stayed in bed for around 5/6 days and i still can't walk, probably not yet for another 6 weeks without crutches. So I'm definitely a lot more slower than this guy. Just make sure you have a brace to stabilize the mcl (i only had one after 1 week ). This makes you feel more confident to walk around on crutches and do exercises like bending.
@laurenwheeler2420

@@saar1241 hey, thanks for the advice! Unfortunately they found more damage in my knee when operating as I also had a fall after the accident, the pain was horrific if I’m being honest and I couldn’t walk on it for a good 3 days but I’m now 3 weeks post op and getting better every day, really noticing a difference still on crutches though. Also I wore a brace before surgery but was told to keep it off after surgery but when I’m looking to get back into the gym and my sports again does I knee compression help? I’m unsure if to start wearing one for those activities or not Thanks ! x

@@laurenwheeler2420 Hi, I´m also 3 (and a half) post op right now, what a coincidence! About the brace, I have to wear it because my MCL had been reconstructed so it's for stabilizing while walking. When you go back to sports, you could wear a knee brace too, the one that is less rough and more elastic, though this would limit your movement but could make you more secure while returning to your sports (mine is football/ soccer)

How tf are your still moving that knee days after the injury? I'm not sure what's broken yet as I'm still waiting for MRI results, but I can barely move my knee with weight on. And any exercise I pay for the next day I can't use it at all. Took a long time due to new year's to get an MRI and results. So I'm 3 weeks in without a diagnosis or any official physio.

I know this comment might go unseen but I have some questions. I tore my ACL along with some damage to my Meniscus about 2 weeks ago. Your philosophy about prehab before surgery sounds interesting. My doctor never mentioned it and is scheduling my surgery for 2-3 weeks from now. All he said was to increase my range of motion and keep icing. I’m a very active person and concerned that I am not doing enough to prepare for surgery. Any thoughts?
